how many do those venues hold?
and are they not festivals?

If so, pretty impressive, but if they think is Slash is gonna waltz out... could get nasty .. nervous

About 12,000 each. No they're not festivals, just stand alone dates.

I'm not trying to insult the people in Europe who couldnt get tickets to those shows. I think its more than obvious that Axl isnt selling out huge stadiums in the near future. With an album in stores, a few hits under his belt, and major promotion, GNR might be able to do it. But he's not going to pack stadiums full of people to just play 20 year old hits.

I would've said the same about two weeks ago. But after seeing Stockolm selling out in less than 8 hours and Helsinki selling out in 8 minutes (!) - even though we all know something weird happened with big promoters there and whatever, my opinion has changed. It is so frustrating to not be able to see the band you like. I mean it's cool for them to sell out quickly, but not for the fans who couldn't get in. So no, I'm not so sure anymore they couldn't sell out stadiums...at least in Europe I'm pretty sure they could. Let's see how fast they sell in Prague and Czech Rep., which are stand alone dates in pretty big venues. There are still tickets for Dublin though...(I don't really get if this one is part of Download festival or a stand alone date...what the hell is the bill there??)

You're a big U2 fan. If U2 hadnt released anything since Achtung Baby, do you think they would be selling out stadiums?

Hmmm...In Ireland, yes. Grin
I just think the European audience is different because in some cities/ countries we're not used to see big bands play very often. That's why U2 sold out two stadium dates in Paris in a matter of minutes as well (2 x 80,000 tickets)...There's often two US legs on tours, whereas there's only one European leg in most cases. For a lot of us, it's a one chance thing, so we kinda get crazy sometimes. lol I'm not sure it's a matter of releasing new material or not. To give you an idea, they talked about GN'R's show in Paris in one of France's biggest newspaper yesterday. They rarely do that for other bands. Especially those who have disappeared for 13 years.

And people were saying that noone is talking about it in France. No mention anywhere.

Well, I guess now it will sell out quickly.

Can anyone help me buy a ticket?

Oh trust me, I will.

There's a good chance I might come, so I'll get my ticket and if it doesn't happen, I'll just sell it on Ebay.

I was very surprised when hearing that one of the shows sold out in minutes. It does prove that GNR should be able to pull off a successful European tour. But the album being out will be a big factor. Maybe not in concern to the shows already sold out, but if the tour is expanded. Whether it be more Euro dates, Asian dates, etc. The more successful it is over there, the more likely GNR will perform over here in the U.S.

I just hope that Axl is ready for the insanity and pressure of a major tour.

Seriously, you guys going to those shows should take some pics and have like a '2006 euro tour pic' thread. It would be cool. Those of us that cant go can vicariously live through your experience. Grin

besides a new band in 01-02 they had nothing to promote and toured. And they can tour to promote cd or just because they want  people to know that they are back.

I just hope that Axl is ready for the insanity and pressure of a major tour.

i think a couple of people have become disillusioned with axls behaviour over the last tour and the continued absence of the record that they have kinda lost in amongst all that just how big a band and name gnr and axl actually are. and of course some have built a scepticism of the hype by being amongst hardcore fans online.
but rock music, hard/heavy rock music, still commands a substantial audience outside of america where it has become so diluted that most of it (rightly) never surfaces and as a result has died away. in europe (and maybe, probably, asia) the rise of other genres hasnt been so apparent or huge and there still is a longing for the likes of guns and metallica.

but of course, axl and guns are a special case. and they do command an aura and intrigue second only to the likes of michael jackson - really, they are that big. and its helped by the fact that we go through peroids of silence. but the fact reminas, guns and axl were so notorious they have a place in the back of the psyche of music fans which wont be dislodged in europe by the mess of the last american tour or the failure of chinese democracy emerging. theyre just that big that nothing has ever taken their place, nor enough hurt been inflicted to make people turn away.
and lets hope that remains the case, cause im heading to denmark as well as down the road to dublin.

you're right that the album being out could prove a defining factor as far as north america is concerned. but the rest of the world still has a place for axl and guns without it. at present.

i`m gonna take pics at graspop and rock am ring......

i`m pretty confident, you`ll get enough pics and dvds of this tour ok

the concerts at rock am ring and rock in rio will most certainly get professionally recorded, does anyone know if that`s the case with the other festival shows as well?
