As we know how diligently Axl keeps tabs on all press relating to GNR, I'd say any kind word may go a long way right now, regardless of how we might view the publication.

hey you guys remember that rumor a few months back where axl is suppose to be on the cover of the rolling stone for the spring edition.... when was that suppose to be again May?? Huh
It is the "Spring Music Preview" issue but Heath Ledger is on the cover.

that review is fake. too manty misspellings and puncuation errors
rant ?The review is NOT fake. ?It's on page 68 of the mag.
I already explained that the spelling errors were mine.

P.S.? You need to take that "t" out of 'many' and put it in 'punctuation' where it belongs.
? Roll Eyes

"sounds more line an overproduced mess"

i think they meant "like."
Typo was mine ... SORRY!!! ?Embarrassed

P.S. ?I typed "aggro" wrong too. ?Lips Sealed
Fixing the typos now. ?ok
I noticed that also, was about to say RS needs editors ;P

Was a good review except for the TWAT comment.    Pretty harse VR comment but that's to be expected now.   Axl got his share of disses during articles when VR was all over the place.

That was my first thought after I heard the demos.

I didn't think that comparison was necessary. VR are not GN'R, GN'R are not VR. Simple as that.

And I think TWAT is much much better than IRS. IRS actually irritates me now.

"'There was a Time' wants to be a 'Don't Cry' style Epic but sounds more like an overproduced mess"

Um, isn't this whole album "overproduced" technically?  i mean it has been in the making for what, 10+ years??

also:
gypsy, did you write this article?  are you Brian Hiatt? or did you copy and scan this right from the magazine -- if so then why the typo's??  im confused nervous

edited to fix my own typos  confused

Thanks, Gypsy.  That's some good press, anyways.  I've heard the demo of TWAT enough now to agree with what they say there.  I don't really think it's overproduced, I think it's just kinda lame.  (Wrong thread, I know)

Now we can only hope that Rolling Stones' current readership of prepubescents have heard stories about GN'R from their parents Roll Eyes

In my opinion, TWAT is a great track for about the first 2:30 - even when Axl launches into his perfect Geoff Tate of Queensryche impression.? However, after that it pretty much falls apart.? The reason mostly being the quality of the mix rather than the actual music, though.? The layers just kind of 'blend' together too much.? I'm sure the album version will be much tighter, probably have at least one more verse, and overall be a very strong track.

That's funny, I think twat really kicks in after the three minute mark. The guitar work is chilling.

I agree with  you...its amazing after the 2.30 minute mark

Don't you think that you need somebody?

« Reply #71 on: March 09, 2006, 01:07:13 AM »

Why the RS guy thinks TWAT is an attempt to sound like Dont Cry is beyond me.  It's formula is very similar to November Rain.  Starts slow, mellow solo, choir of doom chorus vocals, longer crazier solo... its the same.  And I'm thrilled that it is.  NR is my all time fave, and it would be nice to have something in the same vein on the next cd.

The rest of the review was pretty sweet though.

TWAT will sound better when its finished. There is too much going on in that demo.

I think TWAT is the best of all three.? Better seems, IMO, more of a mess than TWAT.? Don't get me wrong Better seems to be up there with all the songs but that seems to be more unfinished than TWAT. And they used one bad picture of Axl.? Otherwise good review.  I shouldn't complain since it's like the first article that doesn't talk about Axl's braid, or he's too fat, or he's going ghetto, or some other shit and it's great to hear about someone talking about their music for change.

No contradiction. TWAT is my favourite to, together with Better. That doesn change the fact, that it is still sounding pretty confused.

I like to look at this in a positive way: Yes, it is (technically) a mess, but ALREADY one of my all time favourites. I don't dare to think, how good the studio version will be.

Thanks for the article, Gypsy!! ok
Humm.. Twat just wasn't mixed properly. It's not really overproduced, but I agree it's a mess.

also:
gypsy, did you write this article?  are you Brian Hiatt? or did you copy and scan this right from the magazine -- if so then why the typo's??  im confused nervous
She wrote what was in the article and saved as a jpeg file to avoid stealing, I guess.
