this question really bothers me. I think Artists should be able to produce their own music NOT cover everything another band has done because that's unoriginal. I dont mind song covers but i do think whats the point with these tribute bands. However, bands that are now dead, tribute bands reproduce their musik to the world to educ8 them about another band. Generally, i aint for tribute bands. What do you guys think??

I don't know really any tribute band that really deserve the talk, but I think that if any band wants to get in the bussiness the first thing is to make some good cover of some good band  ok

Tribute concerts are ok, but a tribute band is a little bit too much...

there's nothing wrong with a cover band. But a 'tribute band' usually try to dress up like the originals, and that's makes it laughable.

Some cover bands are good, like cover bands for AC/DC and Dragonforce. Those bands all play the same song again and again anyway so it's easy to cover, but the fans somehow enjoy it. Sounds good to me!  Grin

dude....whats wrong with goin' to the pub n' rockin' out to a band thats playin' tribute to your fav. band.

PLUS...!!!!.....maybe in some cases like you said, but most tribute bands r' only doin' there  job, just for the money!!
my uncle plays cover songs twice a week as a duo and with a drum machine, the motherfucker gets over a grand a gig!!
its a job, take it or leave it!!

The most original cover band ever is Dread Zeppelin. They do Zep covers(some others I think as well) and the lead singer is an Elvis impersonator. I think they might have a few original songs as well though, I'm not quite sure. Its been many years since I seen them.

I saw a Marvin Gaye cover band once. They were really good. They were all white guys under the age of 25. So yeah, it was different.

How about a "Cover Band" that has an actual member of the real band?

McBrain Damage. An Iron Maiden cover band featuring Nikko McBrain. Normally they will get together in some clubs right before a Maiden tour starts.

I am all for them. Good fun night out for fans of a band who don't tour regularly.

I think they're fun for fans. I saw a U2 tribute band in Portland when I went to see U2 in December. It was fun cause the night before the real U2 show at Kell's Irish pub it was loaded with U2 fans who were going to the real deal the next night. It was like a warmup. Then again after the real U2 show the same band(Zoo Station) played the after party at Kell's again. I thought it was great fun. I'm actualy going to see another U2(Zoo2K) tribute next Thursday. The thing I wonder though is I couldn't imagine being a  musician and always playing someone else's music. You'd think they'd want to play their own material. then again who knows maybe most Tribute bands do, do their own thing when they aren't paying tribute.

Ever heard of Lezepplin?  A lesbian tribute band, I read it on cnn.com.  Apparently they're quite good.  And if the tribute band doesn't ruin the songs or really bomb, they're fine with me.

The CNN story has been removed, but I found it here: http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/news/general_music_news/girl_band_lez_zeppelin_rocks_on.html

By the way, its Lez Zeppelin, not the way I wrote it the first time.  It's a good read, enjoy beer
