Actually, there are rumors that he had to have part of his tounge removed due to the cancer-he went through the divorce, and I think he lost his mother a year or 2 ago-that's a lot to go through, although the drinking does not help

he had the cancer cut out of the tongue and has a notch in his tongue which perfectly fits a pick.
I heard that from one of the bands that opened for them on their last tour, apparently Eddie showed it to them.
he also had a hip replacement.
but all of this happened years ago, he's recovered from it all. thing is, he's an alcoholic and doesn't seem to wanna stop drinking. last date of the 2004 tour, he was completely wasted and I think he smashed his guitar on stage.
