North American Tour question...
«
on:
March 02, 2006, 02:49:27 PM »
Who thinks when they come back to NA that they will play Vancouver and Philly again?
Will they do a free show? what do you think their options are?
discuss.

Hahaha a free show? Wow, really optomistic are we? I highly doubt they will do a free show!

It would be really cool if they did a free show. Remember: those Philly fans never even got as much as a statement for what actually happened and they got screwed over big time. I think the band needs to make a gesture towards them. I wonder how much difficulty they have with Clear Channel after the tour was plugged last time. So far, we only have European tour dates. Must be one hell of a negotiation with extremely clear contracts. I think the conditions under which the band can perform in Philly will be a decisive factor in all of this. Don't think that these venues will be happy to allow the band to perform without some very strict rules about showing up and showing up on time and very big fines if these conditions are broken.
My best guess is that they will either skip Philly altogether or do a show (paid) like any other with maybe Axl ranting on stage about the aborted tour in 2002.

A free show in Philly is definitely the way to go.
Show the fans he actually cared/cares.

i remember a long time back one of the guitarists, i dont remember which one (not buckethead) said that they were aware of the bad feelings they caused in philly and that the band owed everyone big time and planned on eventually doing something special for them once the ball got rolling again on the GNR front. so i guess all we have to do is wait and see if clear channel will let them play, or even the city, because they were banned from philly after that incident.
i was there. it sucked, and yet it was one of my best concert experiences. strange.
no word on canada though. i guess its 'f the cunucks.

For a NA tour to work, they need to do a hell of a lot of promoting and have CD released before the tour starts. Nothing will happen in NA if CD isnt releases

No they weren't, Gn'R was never banned from Philly, WMMR just boycotted their music for a couple weeks. It was lame.

I remember that too.. it made me real happy to read. (I think it was Tommy who said it..) I'm not asking for a free concert or anything, but maybe an extened concert or a song or 2 that's never been played before (something new, or something old).. you know, just something special that no other city gets.. we diserve it. Vancouver deserves something special too, but they knew about the cancelation before they were alowed into the building, and they actually got a reason why it happened.
We all went in thinking that we were going to see Gn'R (I even bought tickets for the next night, because there were 2 philadelphia shows!) and then we get some lame ass "A band member is sick" comment. Then the riot happens, and here we are just over 3 years later and we still haven't heard anything.

Aren't they still in litigation about the Philly show? I just wonder if they would consider it a smart legal move to give a free show to make up for the incident there, since they aren't going to want to admit wrong doing while the lawsuit is still going. Even Vancouver, if I remember correctly, Axl said he could have and would have made it, and blamed the venue for the cancellation. So I'm not sure they are going to now say "sorry" if they don't consider it their fault.

What is their fault though is that those Philly fans (i do feel their pain) never got a proper explanation for what happened. I don't know why that show was cancelled, so I'm not saying the band (or Axl specifically) should apologize, but an explanation would go a long way.

What about Montreal & St. Louis from the Use Your Illusioins Tour? Both of those cities got VERY Short shows followed by a Riot.
I believe the band is still banned from Montreal and that's why they played Toronto, London & Vancouver in Canada instead of Toronto & Montreal which are the 2 biggest cities in Canada.

I don't disagree, but I don't think they can say anything when there is an ongoing lawsuit.

I'd worry about them having a tour in the first place, or even showing up at these supposed festivals for that matter ...
Hell, worry about them figuring out how to issue a press release.
Just in case Axl & Merck need to figure out how to get started, I recommend:

probably clear channel. no one knows the entire story at least none of us do yet...
and yes I am assuming the album is out before they even think about touring in the US. that would just be dumb!

I may be wrong, but didn't Axl say that he would never perform another concert in St. Louis again?
