Unfortunately as they do more new songs and the album is out it is unlikely they will bust out a lot of the older material, which is kind of understandable too since these guys are way distant from it!

...? ?drool? hey Guys, i really wonder why doesn't Axl sing don't cry since 1993? even GNR didn't play it at rock in rio 2001 so, what's da'secret that Axl/new gnr hide, honestly? sometimes I think Axl's voices isn't able anymore to sing it but still da'guy sings other heavy tracks like WTTJ, SCOM, Rocket Queen,… anyway, we all can notice that don't cry wasn't played in 2002....it's gonna happen THIS TIME AGAIN then?? Shocked? ... hey fucking journalists this is for ya :? y'all didn't have the real balls to ask Axl 'bout it so i hope you do RIGHT NOW!? ?rant

folks, ur opinions might make us understand this fucking situation? ok?

Oh for gods sake man! You really dont make much sense! I am sure Axl had his reasons. Dont try to over analyse everything, its not good for your health! I was hoping he would play Dont Cry and Estranged when I watched them in 02 but it wasnt to be! Shit happens they still played a whole load of classics and some great new stuff! Just come down and have a beer and just look forward to the next chapter of Guns n Roses which is right around the corner! Mike

could the fact they dont play it have anything to do with the amount izzy contributed or shannon dying?

No it's because he doesn't have slash there to do that little part behind his back hihi

i think they didn't play it 'cos they pretty much have a lot of ballads and mellow songs and i don't think we would like a ballad only show. probably they'll sing it in the future instead of nov rain or some other soft song. time will tell.

didn't they get sued over that song because someone else proved that they had written it. i'm pretty damn sure that happened. maybe that's why it's no longer played.

Tracii Guns said that, in 1992. But I can't say he was able to proved it... I don?t think so.
Don't Cry with the original lyrics is a very old song (maybe the oldest), they wrote it at the time they changed their name from Hollywood Rose to Guns n?Roses (with Tracii on the lead guitars).
Officially it is a Izzy's song (music) and Axl (lyrics) and it?s still credited that way on the records.

The Alt. lyrics version was also played in Inglewood, CA. August 2nd 1991. featuring Shanon Hoon singing with Axl. (Better than Axl, in my opinion  rofl ).

Oh sorry, my bad about the Civil War rehearsal thing. I haven't heard the demo so I had no idea. I imagine the Estranged thing I heard is probably fake too. It was just a very short instrumental jam kinda thing. So fucking sad that some tossers spend time making fake shit.

they've been playing Don't Cry live since the club days before AFD came out

and it's one of the 1st songs they wrote as a band ok
http://www.gnrinfo.tk/

Written by: "Don't Cry" was written by Axl and Izzy. Izzy probably wrote most of the music, while Axl and Izzy wrote the lyrics.
Written in: "Don't Cry" was written in late, 1984 or early 1985.

Performed live: "Don't Cry" was a regular in the setlist during the Use Your Illusion tour. It was probably performed for the first time in 1985.

In Their Own Words:

Duff: It's one of the first songs that we started playing as a band in the intercalation, and it really kind of put us across in the clubs.

Axl: It was the first song written for Guns N' Roses. Actually we weren't Guns N' Roses yet, but we were starting to become a reality, and Izzy and I wrote a song and we decided we needed to get back together

Axl: It was [about] a girl that Izzy had gone out with, and I was really attracted to her, and they split up, and we wrote the song.

Axl: I was sitting outside the Roxy, and you know, I was like really in love with this person, and she was realising this wasn't going to work, she was doing her things, she was telling me goodbye, and I like sat down, and just started crying, and she was telling me 'don't cry'. Next night we got together and wrote the song in 5 minutes. He'd been through some things with her, himself.

Axl: They liked Welcome To The Jungle and stuff, but Don't Cry was like the most popular song.

Dizzy: It's one of the only songs I remember from the club days, because it was like the only audible song, cos the band was so damn loud.

Duff: It was something we wanted to record for the first record but...

Axl: ... it never came out feeling right.

Axl: Since it was our most successful song, [we decided to] save it.

Shannon Hoon: I got it on a shitty ass tape from someone who knew someone who knew someone. I used to play in a cover band in Indiana, and we used to cover the song Don't Cry, cos there was song that no one back there knew - everyone back there were into GnR - but these were songs that wern't on the Appetite-album.

Duff: We didn't play it for four years.

Shannon Hoon: It was kinda an open mic night at the Record Plant in Hollywood. I was singing along with it, and I think, Axl came in and Axl asked me if I knew the song and I said 'yes', so he had a coupla background parts, and I went in a sang the background parts, and it sounded cool, and he was like 'oh, fuck, lets just sing the whole song together'

Axl: While I was recording the original version I started hearing another melody and words in my head. It really surprised me. I told Mike Clink, our producer, "Put me on another track! I don't know what's happening here but I've got a different song coming through my head and I want to get that on tape.

Axl: I prefer the new version

To my knowlage they didn't rehurse "Don't Cry" for the 2001/2 tours, the band how ever did play Civil War at soundcheck for their first show but have yet to play it live.

Additionally they never rehursed anymore new songs than they played for the 01/02 tours.

And you didn't notice the majority of the 2001/2 setlist was made up of Appetite songs ? Do you not think that was intentional ? Axl planned on touring in 2003 as well and I believe he had some plan to play mostly Appetite songs then Illusion Songs then CD songs, with a few exceptions.

What about:

Civil War
Estranged
Bad Obsession
Yesterdays

They were old played alot by the old band it wasn't just Don't Cry Axl missed out, I think in the European Festival Tour this year we SHOULD get more Illusion songs, whether or not we do . . . .

As a rule with most bands, the longer a tour goes on the more they rotate the set list. At the start of tours there is often a particularly set list that rarely changes and as the band get more confident on the road they introduce new songs. I hope to see this in 2006.

I just hope to see see them string together more than 10 consecutive shows without a major incident or tour cancelation in 2006.

seriously though... I hope they get back to the UYI tour style of playing what feels comfortable and not sticking to a true "set list".

well in most of 92 and 93 they pretty much had the same setlist, with some changes from time to time

I thought some relatively obscure Mexican musician claimed that he had written the melody and sued... but I believe he lost. Not entirely sure about that though...

I believe there was an out of court settlement.
