I'm glad someone brough this up.? Regardless of comparison, I feel that the sentiment behind this thread speaks for itself.? Though I haven't heard CITR and don't plan on it until the album is released, I have heard everything else that has been released.? Guys, is it just me or are we headed for a very big dissapointment?? I mean, cmon.? Some of the stuff is really good and? some shows definite promise, but over guys, im sorry but I am quite dissapointed so far.? Thoughts?
I'm not dissapointed, kind of suprised more or less... Axl made some excellent music I'll be the firs to say it.. Some seems a little less guitar rock or faster paced then I am use to, but I guess I have to realise even though this is called gnr it really isn't the gnr I knew or know.. I mean personally I don't want multiple songs opening with effects or piano, that's just me though, it has nothing to do with afd or the illusions, I thought the idea of one estranged and one NR were brilliant on each album, we need more comas imo...

You can't compare the two albums. ?Axl has had more than a decade to work on this album, and if in that time he couldn't come up with an album that was better than Contraband, that would be beyond pathetic.
I knew someone was going to say this. ?
?If Chinese Democracy is ever released, you sure as hell can compare them. ?Chinese Democracy and Contraband will be two "rock albums", simple as that. ?Just because one took longer to make doesn't mean crap. ?Taking longer to finish something, doesn't always make it better. ?Sometimes, it can make it worse. ?The fact of of the matter, is that bands don't put out albums that they don't think are good. ?Velvet Revolver thought after a few months, they had a good enough album to put out. ?After about 10 years, Axl may think he has a good enough album to put out. ?Yes, you will be able to compare them. ?These are albums that have no asterisks by them ? ?

i think it's more about style, I wouldn't compare cd to afd because it's so different eve though both are rock albums.. This is why maiden n megadeth or maiden n metallica are always compared, because it's similar style.. Lets compare cold play's music to afd, or train..

Well it's obvious the songs on CD are much more complex than Contraband, in my opinion, needlessly so, because although they are good, I don't thik they are Axl's best work
First off, I think The Blues, Rhiad, Silkworms, OMG plain out just suck balls, and are 4 of the worst songs I've heard and I can't find anything praiseworthy about them
Chi Dem and Madagascar, and Catcher are average at best
IRS, TWAT, and Better are the best of the bunch.....
As for Contraband: STB, Do it for the Kids, Big Machine, FTP, Headspace, Set Me Free, YGNR, Slither, DLT, and Loving the Alien are all much better than the best of CD
Superhuman, Ilegal I, Spectacle I enjoy more than 7 of the songs on the proposed CD.
So in my opinion, I would say NO, CD is not better than Contraband. But that's my taste. Of course, I liked AFD much more than the Illusion albums.
All the comples, eics in the ilusion albums bored me after a while.....not that i didn't like them.....but i like rockers much more than epcs and ballads.
Especially when I'm listening to a rock band.
And to be honest, after 12 years, I thought CD would be better. More than haf is filler IMO, hopefully, this is NOT all the tracks.

Well considering these demos are all very old.. I find it odd you suddenly know more than half of chinese democracy is filler.
And you the The Blues sucks?
How?

How?
FYI: Ryiad, OMG, Silkworms, The Blues were from live performances, not demos....FYI< OMG was a studio release and it still sucks
And yes, I do think the Blues sucks.....from the live shows.......I could not stand his voice....the flow of the song, anything
And how do you know the age of the demos? From what I've heard of the songs, and I sure wish I head a studio version of the album, that's my opinion of them.

1.? ?Sucker Train Blues much better than Chinese Democracy
2.? ?Do It For The Kids better than Rhiad and the Bedouins
3.? ?Big Machine better than Oh My God
4.? ?Better much, much better than Illegal I Song
5.? ?Spectacle way better than Silkworms
6.? ?Fall To Pieces and Madagascar - Too close, but will go for Maddy coz of the solo section
7.? ?The Blues better than Headspace
8.? ?IRS better than Superhuman
9.? ?Set Me Free better than Catcher In The Rye
10. You Got No Right way, way better than There Was A Time
6-4 to VR and we haven't even mentioned 3 of the best songs from VR; Slither, Loving The Alien and Dirty Little Thing. If you compared the best 10 off Contraband (Slither, LTA, DLT insted of Big Machine, Illegal i song, Superhuman) against CD's 10, then it wouldn't even be close. And like we said Axl had much longer to work on his stuff.
At the moment;
Axl's lyrics = Weiland's lyrics
Axl's singing> Weiland's singing
Slashs's solos> 10 times better than all 3 newGnr Guitarists combined
VR Riffs> GR Riffs
Slash's lead melodies>Fortus and Finck's melodies
GnR Arrangements>VR
Until CD is released, we can't really compare though.
VR Band chemistry > GnR's chemistry
VR Live > Much better than new GnR live(Axl reliant too much on older stuff but VR can put on a good show with mostly new material + VR gauranteed to show up and put on a good show, whearas Axl sometimes cancels, doesn't turn up or turns up late).
Until CD is released, we can't really be 100% sure though.

I think the best song on Contraband is sucker train blues. then followed closely by Slither and dirty little thing.
the potential CD songs i think are way better (apart from silkworms). I feel very impressed with the new gn'r songs so far leaked. the studio OMG sucks but the live performance at RIR3 and House of Blues Las Vegas are fucking awesome.
i heard contraband and i only likes the above three songs i mentioned. VR are okay but i'm not really into them. I think Fall to Pieces, Superhuman and Do it For the Kids are really crap.?
to conclude, i prefer the potential CD songs way better than Contraband. Slither was awesome as was DLT and STB and i was really let down by fall to pieces.

Hell as far as I'm concerned, Rhiad is better than any song on Contraband, save Slither. Honestly, CD is gonna completely blow away VR and anything they put out.

Is this album better than "Contraband" by Velvet Revolver...?
1.? ?Chinese Democracy
2.? ?Rhiad and the Bedouins
3.? ?Oh My God
4.? ?Better
5.? ?Silkworms
6.? ?Madagascar
7.? ?The Blues
8.? ?IRS
9.? ?Catcher In The Rye
10. There Was A Time
No. Axl is trying to be to much like fucking Mozart.
When I listen to someone claiming to be Guns I wanna fucking get pumped and just rock out. Not be put to sleep.
IRS is the only one out of all of those that I turely like... TWAT would be good to if it weren't for it's awful chorus.
