I'm a huge fan of comedy on TV and just wondered if i'm missing any gems.

My Favourites include:

Curb Your Enthusiasm
Family Guy
Simpsons
Seinfeld
Scrubs
Friends

i think especially Curb your enthusiasm is so well written, and anyone who thinks the office created cringe television . . . YOU ARE WRONG

Everyone loves Raymond has some very funny and insightful views  of marriage.
Go back a few years: Fraser, Cheers

Go back further:
Andy Griffith  show
Gilligan's  Island
Bewitched
I Dream of Jeannie

Arrested Development was great, of course it just got cancelled.? I don't know if its going to be shown through syndication though, it might not have been on long enough.?

Best Comedy Ever.

Scrubs & The office (both UK & US versions).  I tend to like shows without a laughtrack.

Honeymooners
Sanford and Son
Mister Ed
Wings
Girlfriends
Everybody Loves Raymond
Newhart
Gomer Pyle

I completely forgot about Wings and Gomer Pyle, as  well as Newhart. You must be older than me!
Sanford and Son never did anything for me.
Mister Ed? How old are you? You mean you remember it? (he he)
Never saw Girlfriends, but then I missed a couple of  decades of TV while in school.

Scrubs is one of my favorite shows.  I love the fact that it can have you laughing one second and fighting back tears the next.

I haven't been able to get into the office.  I've tried watching a couple times, and it seems like something I should like, but I'm just not finding it very funny.

I'm 30. I used to watch Mister Ed every morning before school in 5th grade. Ocassionally, Nickelodeon brings it back and plays it for awhile before taking it off. I haven't seen it in about 5 or 6 years. Gomer Pyle is one of the funniest shows ever made. Back when I was a heavy drug user, I always made sure to save at least one joint to watch Gomer Pyle. Newhart was great also. That episode where the town thinks Bob killed his wife is hilarious.

Have you ever watched How I Met Your Mother?

It's new and seems to be funny. I've only watched 1 episode, cos it's not being broadcasted here yet.

I never seen it. But I've seen it advertised. I dont watch much tv anymore. When I do, its usually Law and Order or CSI, or a documentary.

Just found this thred in a search.

May I put forward the excellent Arrested Development.  Normally American comedies suck ass (unless they're cartoons  for some reason) but this is one of my all-time faves.  Right up there with the Blackadders (but not quite that good).  Just great storylines, great characters, superb scripts, great actors, great commentary.  Everything's about as good as you'll get for this kind of programme.  I can't believe it got stopped, apparently in favour of some more reality tv bollocks due to ratings  rant  "come on!"  hihi

Arrested Development should go down in history as a classic.

Arrested Development - one the the best written and funny shows I've ever seen.
The Office (US Version) - quicky becoming one of my favorite shows ever
Married with Children - Good show for cheap slapstick humor.
South Park - writing is very insightful and usually has a deeper point.

Did anybody mention Malcolm in the Middle?,

I don't remember.

The first two episodes of Rob Brydon's Annually Retentive have been fantastic!

On discussing the possibility of having Eamon Holmes as a guest on the show: "Eammon, likes... Money. No, let me rephrase that. Eammon... needs, money."
