Your ideas to replace the BH guitar solo part onstage
«

Something would be really amazing:
a Richard/Robin guitar jam:? Robin starts playing something, and then Richard joins him then they make a "battle" of guitar solos onstage, Could be amazing, people would love that. Then the whole band starts jaming, brain, dizzy, tommy and chris enter in the jam, and finally at the end Axl appears from backstage after the jam and they all start playing a new song.
VR did something like that in their extend version of "Set me Free" onstage, Slash and Dave Kuchner were jamming together, it was one of the highlights of the show for me. That kind of jam blew people away.

That actually would be pretty cool. I would like to see Fortus get a little more spotlight. He's a really good guitar player, he's under rated in my opinion.

While that would be really cool, I'm still hoping that buckethead comes around and tours with them.? No one can replace Bucketheads parts no matter how hard they try.? I'm not saying that Robin and Richard couldn't create something original that's equal or better than bucket, but they can't match Bucket's skill for what he plays. While Slash and Dave may have done that for one song, Robin and Richard would have to do that for every song they play.

Plenty of guys can replace him (Satriani, Vai, Malmsteen, Alex Lifeson, and a myriad of others), the problem is, none of them would play with Axl.

Cmon, Nes. This is fantasy land stuff. Why do you hate BH so much, and love Robin and Richard so much? I remember you saying awhile back how the band was so much better without BH. How do you know? They havent done anything without him, and its crystal clear that if they take his parts out of these new songs we just heard the quality of the material drops tremendously.
To answer your question, I dont think they should be replacing his parts. Just get someone else to play his parts. I would rather have kick ass music and have it be the way Axl originally wanted it to be than to have Robin and Richard trying to improvise something.

When buckethead left I thought it wouldn't really affect the music because he has little to no part at all on the songs we saw on the 2002 tour. Now that these new tracks have surfaced, I don't see how you can remove his music from the songs without totally destroying them.

Sounds cool if you had Dickey Betts and Duane Allman playing guitar for you! Of course, Richard and Robin aren't anywhere near those two so I say just play the damn songs and add in their own style to the solos. A concert doesn't have to be a note for note replication of the album. Sometimes you'll get better versions of the songs...sometimes worse. That's live rock and roll.

I think he's talking about where Buckethead had is own solo at shows in 2002, and he's talking about replacing that. Not the parts in the songs.

You must not read many of Nesquick's posts. He wants all things BH erased not only from the album, but from the collective memory of the world.

No I know he hates Bucket for some reason. I know he thinks Bucket's parts will ruin Chinese Democracy(Yeah right, I dont think so). but whatever. They have a poll over at splat to see who would want to see Nesquick vs. Buckethead at Wrestlemania. I was just pointing out what he was talking about in this thread.

I wouldn't rule out someone like Gary Sunshine or Eric Cadieux touring with them as a guitarist.
If not, I wouldn't be surprised to see Pittman sampling Bucket's solos live. He's gotta do something when they play live surely? ?

Stop it. I'm not talking about BH's stuff in the songs, i'm not talking about changing the songs and i'm not talking about Buckethead's style of playing.? I'm talking about how replacing the "buckethead guitar solo part" in the Live Shows (big sure moon, the chicken dance, and star wars). There will have more free time onstage, so I just think it would be cool to make something new, fresh, and that everybody would enjoy.
I didn't bash the Buckethead here, so stop reading what you want to read. what you say is not what I wrote, and this is not the subject of this topic.

Maybe they should just play new songs to replace the solos.

I prefer when you answer like that?
Yeah, that's another idea. Playing maybe 1 or 2 more songs with a setlist of 23 or 24 songs instead of 21/22...but i still prefer the jam idea.
Focus the attention on the new musicians, they should be under the spotlights too, not only Axl, just let people see this is a tight and real band and not only Super Axl and the rest of the guys below. Do you see what i mean?

Yeah, you have a point. Maybe a jam similar to what the guys did on the UYI tour. But not this long drawn out shit where there's a 10 minute drum solo, several different guitar solos, etc. I think the focus should be on the entire band itself. Just keep instrumentals to a minimum. We pretty much know Axl's gonna whip out the AFD cash cow, and there needs to be enough time to play a very decent amount of new material.

Solos give Axl time to rest up a bit and calm his vocals down. It also lets the new guys demonstrate to the crowd that they can play. I think you have to fill that time with some kind of instrumental. I think a jam is a great idea. Hell, Axl is even playing guitar these days, he can join in!

Fortus is not underrated, it's just he was really new in 2002, and people didn't have enough time to know him because the tour stopped brutally a few month after.
He didn't have enough time to show his full potencial. Don't forget he wasn't in the band by the time of Rio 2001, he didn't join in 1997 like Robin or in 2000 like Buckethead, but in 2002, so yeah, he was really new in the band when the ball started rolling in 02.
Anyway, he impressed me a lot at VMA'02, he was the most energetic new guy, he took the lead on madagascar and guess what? It's probably the best version of this song ever played Live. I think Rock in Rio 2006 will build him "a name". He will DEFINITELY play more Lead parts, and I'm sure in the following days he will have "a name".? I've always seen him like the link between the old band fanbase and the new one.
