When you think about all the hip-hop and pop out there today, and the watered down rock... then you listen to a song like "The Garden", you realize hard rock bands don't make music like that anymore...? or maybe I'm just getting old.? I hear good songs these days, that are more on the pop side of rock, but not monster hard rock songs like The Garden.?

Even Slash only gives us flashes of brilliance on songs like Dirty Little Thing (which is a fucking great solo and riff if you ask me).?

I agree, the Garden has some absolutely amazing guitar playing, and we see moments of how good Slash can be on the DLT and YGNR solos too.

I really like the song. Can't complain about the video either.
I'm a fan of Alice Cooper, too. I can see how not everyone can get into his vocals, he's one of those love him or hate him kinda guys, but I love him - so yeah, I really enjoy The Garden

I really like it - One of the least talked about songs of GNR's career though, to be sure. It's definitely one of the few songs I really like on UYI I, because it stands out from the rest of the samey-sounding "rawk" stuff.

Before all my posts about subjective matters there should be an IMO before the post. I took this sig down but of course it has to go back up.

I love the garden, but agree that I'd rather have Axl do the parts Alice did.

It occurs to me that I implied no one under 27 could appreciate Alice Cooper.  I've edited my post to avoid that assertion.  I guess what I was saying is Alice tends to be less respected by younger fans because he comes across as more dated.  However, there are still plenty of young gunners out there who recognize talent when they hear it.  ok

Isn't their a demo of The Garden? I remember hearing some UYI demos years ago, but I never heard this one. If one of the hundreds of people I've sent these new demos to could send me The Garden demo, I would appreciate it. beer

Or just post it here. I dont think there is a rule against old demos being posted, because people do it all the time.

I think ThE GarDen, was an excellent example of what Axl And Slash could do with out Izzy, (dont  get me wrong , I Love Izzy) but its great to hear Alice cooper singin while Slash is fuckin his guitar with that riff! its like, Oh my God! and even Duff's part its great really cool bass playin. ..... I always pictured Axl and Slash getting high durin' that recording.  Grin  anyway great song!

The Garden is Great  ok

I love this section:

..I wasn't really scared
Lost my virginity there,
To a gypsy with blond hair
But now no one seems to care
Like a mouse inside a maze
Wandering round 4 daze
With a smile upon my face,
I never wanna leave this place... ..  .

Probably one of the only Illusion tracks I have never been able to get into at all. Over the years I've done some u-turns on several songs and really started listening to them but never The Garden.

A really cool song, one of GNR's best rockers without a doubt. The riff is really cool, and it gets even cooler as the song progresses (kind of changes). The solo is simply mind blowing. Is it really slide guitar? Didn't know that, and doesn't really sound like it, but OK.

The Garden is a cool song, still haven't seen the video though. Alice Cooper's vocals really fit in I think.

Ah, the old "Alice Cooper is cheesy" argument.  I've had it SOOOO many times.  There's no doubt that to a younger generation he'll often be nothing but dated, but people like me who grew up when Alice and Ozzy were still battling for the title of scariest motherfuckers out there, his voice is THE perfect fit for the eerie psychidelic trippiness of THE GARDEN.  I'm willing to entertain honest disagreement with people older than 27 or 28 about this, but the young gunners are just going to have to accept that they're hearing something different than the rest of us on this track and chalk it up to the generation gap.  Fair?

no, old people are cheasy
