I'm a llama!

« on: February 22, 2006, 06:41:48 PM »

Was just driving home from work in Atlanta listening to 99X when the DJ (Axel, no joke) came on and started talking about the new Gn'R demo tracks. He said "no one knows when Chinese Democracy is coming out," then cut to a clip of a caller phoning in to request the new Gn'R. The DJ asked which song he wanted to hear, the "rocker" or the "ballad." The caller said "whatever you like better," and the DJ said that since he played IRS yesterday, he would play the more ballad-y song today, which he introduced as "The Blues." The caller then went on to say that no matter what you think of Axl, even if he is a jerk, he's a musical genius and it's great to hear him back.

After the song played, the DJ came back on and repeated that it was a demo for a new Gn'R track called "The Blues."

This is the first I've heard of a demo for "The Blues" being played on the radio (apologies if this has been reported elsewhere, but I didn't find any mentions when I searched for it). I can't confirm that it was in fact "The Blues," and not "Better" or "There Was A Time," as I've not heard any of these songs, but the DJ did repeat the song name twice. Also, it had a strong piano intro (which didn't sound like any of the descriptions I've heard of the other two), and there was a song lyric in which "the blues" were mentioned, so it seems likely that it was in fact "The Blues."

As an aside, I'm surprised that 99X -- an alternative rock station on which I've never heard Gn'R -- is playing the new Gn'R and speaking about the band with such enthusiasm.

Mods: I apologize if this belonged in the "Radio Stations Playing IRS-TWAT-Better" thread, but since I couldn't find I mention of "The Blues" demo being played anywhere else, I created a new thread. Feel free to move it as you see fit.

Aye, aye, I'd say you made the right decision...

The Blues demo, eh?

It was probably a soundboard, but we may as well leave this open just in case anybody else heard it...

...Just in case.

All this press about Axl I sure would love it for him to step up and deliver some sort of a single.

Anyone cares to contact the DJ?

There was a version of The Blues that I heard the other day that I'd never heard before.  It sounded like someone had cleaned up a soundboard, the vocals on it sound almost identical to the vocals from the Pittsburgh show, but the track is cleaner and the background noise isn't there.  It's kind of weird, I wasn't sure if it was a demo or a soundboard that had been tinkered with

A few days ago there was a copy of one of those "Pittsburgh soundboard layered over Boston soundboard" versions of The Blues floating around and being advertised as a demo - that's all this was.

I hope Axl has gone back to the faster RIR 3 version cause the 2002 version drug a little too much.

I strongly disagree.

2002 Blues > Rio Blues

It's all up to Axl I guess... Either way it'll be a great song though...

If you listen to the studio clip from the Boston television promo, the tempo of the studo version is closer to the 2002 live versions than the 2001 live versions.
