Alot of people dont realize that the hip hop movememnt actually started with the grunge movement. Without grunge, it never would have gotten out of control. Grunge was a fake movement, created by MTV. They had to shove Nirvana down our throats for people to accept it. They started playing their video, and no one responded to it. So they put it into massive rotation and it finally caught on, and in the process, killing the rock movement that still hasnt recovered. Grunge became super trendy, and rich kids started shopping for clothes at thrift stores. Fucking insane. MTV finally realized the true power they had, and as that movement started to fizzle out, they created a new one:rap/hip hop

This movement made grunge look like sesame street. Advocating a thug lifestyle, wearing pants down to your knees, flashing gang signs, colors, wanting girls to mostly screw black guys, etc. As the years went by and the movement didn't die, it carried over into an even younger generation. We now have 10 year old girls dressing like sluts(and some having sex), 12 year old boys bringing guns to school, and in some cases, 5 year old kids bringing crack to school. It shows no sign of stopping anytime soon, and it makes me cringe at the thought of our society when these people become adults, and have some say in the world. Whats next? Embryos doing drive bys on their mom's way to the gynecologist??

All my problems do seem to begin with grunge...or mtv...

This thread is pathetic.? James, sorry, but you're full of shit.?

You think MTV invented Hip Hop?? Dude, that music came from the underground like any other genre, and it's good fucking music for the record.? Rock died down in the 90s because it had had its time and people were bored of it, not because of an evil plot to manipulate our youth into using guns.

You think Hip Hop promotes violence and sexism?? Well, maybe it does, but don't you find it a bit hypocritical to complain about that on a Guns n' Roses board?? If 50 Cent grew up in a world of guns and drugs, what else would you expect him to rap about?? Not that I like 50 Cent, for the record.? He is a noob.

Quote
wearing pants down to your knees, flashing gang signs, colors, wanting girls to mostly screw black guys, etc

So you don't like the culture, evidently.? You don't like the dress sense which is a shame because, personally, goths bug me more.? I'm puzzled though; as the majority of rappers are black, why wouldn't they want girls to have sex with them?? Rock stars have been shagging their groupies for decades, but i guess that's okay cause they're prodominently white.? Gimme a break.

Video games aren't a bad influence either, for the record.? Kids are not total retards, they do understand the difference between real life and fake.? Games are fun because you can do anything you want - control a football team, drive a car really fast, go to war, kill people, whatever.? And all in the safety of your own home! ?You may think that it desensitises people, but i'm certain that no amount of war games would really prepare someone to see a real dead body.? Life is very different to video games, it's fun because it's not real.

Kids are more dangerous these days though.? They act like they can get away with anything at the minute, and the trouble is they probably can.? Kids know that if a teacher or policeman ever raises a finger to them they can scream bloody murder and actually get the adult in trouble - that's never been the case before and I think that's the real problem.? Quit blaming the media. Tongue

I totally agree with all your points.

Kids have to accept responsibility for their actions. You just can't blame Hip Hop or whatever it is on for some kid killing someone or what not.

Its fucking retarded that peopel will say that a game like Grand Theft Auto , told a kid to murder someone. Its bullshit. The kid choose to murder someone. The game did nothing just like music does nothing.

I might be full of shit, but you misinterpreted a few of my comments. I know MTV didn't invent Hip Hop. I meant that they were involved in creating/promoting/shoving down our throats hip hop's early-mid 90's movement. And the sex comment, I meant that the media promoted interracial sex to young white girls. Of course the rappers and other black guys will fuck them. They're not stupid.

What exactly is wrong with interacial sex or relationships?

Like are you racist or something.

The thing is we are all human and for people to care what race someone is , is totally pathetic.

Video games have impacted todays youth far more than rap or any kind of musical movement.  Kids today are so fat and they are getting fatter.  Instead of riding a bike they play Tony Hawk, instead of learing how to play basketball they play it on PS.  All the while eating garbage and washing it down with soda.

People are also more stetched then ever in this country. Personal debt load (unsecured) is at an all time high. Leaving the kids home longer to be raised by the TV and gameboys while the parents work longer.

I listen to Hip Hop everyday, my favourite video game is Grand Theft Auto, I spend a lot of time on the internet, and I enjoy violent movies.  I'm also not a "troubled" or "disturbed" youth.

Not all hip hop promotes being a "thug" and a "criminal"... besides that fact, I'll listen to gangster rap and have no urge to go out and copy their lifestyle.  Also, I probably dress more respectable since I started listening to hip hop than I did when my wardrobe consisted of band t-shirts (and I don't mean I switched to baggy clothes and gold teeth).

I know the difference between real life and a video game where you steal cars, fuck prostitutes, and kill people.

The internet has a bunch of information on it and has kept me connected with family and friends that I otherwise probably wouldn't still be talking to.  I wouldn't say it's made me anti-social but probably the opposite.

I don't watch a violent movie and leave it wanting to kill someone.  Besides, weren't movies like "The Godfather" and "Scarface" gloryfying the gangster lifestyle well before "Get Rich Or Die Trying"?  Like I mentioned in that 50 Cent thread, how come Hip Hop gets singled out?

I say bad parenting and internet consuming a lot of their time.

For me, video games are like medicine to my anger. I can't get arrested for killing people in video games, lol.

Is it just me or females getting pregnant young happening more often? This has happened a lot in my school.

There are many young people that look for role models to emulate. You may not be one of those young people. Therefore the videos do not influence your life style, wants, and needs like others.

Some people do not know the difference between real life and fantasy. Some never mature enough to know the difference ( I know plenty of "adults" that are a mess). But certainly many young people repeat what they see on TV; you have to look no further then out your window to see that.

I have seen Scarface influence young men to act macho and use the same lines in that movie. And, Scarface was dealt heavy criticism for it's violence when it came out and still to this day. Maybe not as so now, because it is old hat.

See what I'm sayin' playa?

Some of u have kinda gone away from the wide variety and have narrowed it down to violence.

Eazy  u know the difference but Id say the majority dont.

Video Games and Internet dont make kids violent BUT it makes them lazy, anti social.

U dont see kids playing outside anymore, or doing things cause they wanna lay around on video games and the internet all day which is why our obesity is so high in this country.

Hip Hop is great music but when white kids from the suburbs wear baggy clothes, gold teeth, try to talk the lingo and act like they are hard, that is a very extremely negative influence.

its not cool to be a criminal, its not cool to be  in jail its not cool to glorify all that shit.

I think if a child lives in a community that is violent, such as having parents who are abusive or siblings who are? involved in gangs, then it's more influential. It has to do with the environment. My 10 year old nephew plays video games and listens to hardcore metal, but he's a good kid and does well in school, because he has a very safe and loving family.

Are you blind and cant read posts? Where did I say I was a racist? Where did I say I didn't approve of interracial sex? I dont hang out with black dudes, and I hate that gangbangin(and wannabe) lifestyle, but I've fucked black girls and I do not consider myself a racist.
My point was that MTV encouraged interracial sex among the really young crowd. Instead of allowing the young to think for themselves, MTV made screwing guys from other races the "cool" thing to do. Learn how to read before you insult and label someone.

I agree. I pretty much just play video games when I'm stressed out.

Do you think kids outside could be causing trouble themselves also?

I get that there are impressionable youth out there, but I don't think the entertainment industry should be the first thing to come under fire. ?Even the President of the U.S. turns to violence when it's far from a last resort, doesn't that have a bigger impact on people's views than someone in the music industry? ?

Parenting and education are more to blame I think. ?If some people are so easily influenced by a music video, those parents need to deal with it. ?Maybe that's not possible because of time constraints and instead the TV raises the kids. ?So the real issue is getting parents more free time or improving communication with their kids.

Ya feel that bitch?

Of course that's not all that hip hop is. ?You're talking about gangster rap... Kanye West, Common or Talib Kweli aren't out there trying to convince people to be "hard".

Now LAZINESS... That's a problem. ?Parents need to get their kids into sports. ?Instead of buying the kid a video game for christmas, they should be buying them a basketball net for the driveway.

It is certainly a combo of everything I think.

But I still stand by my statement that media is the main player that influence us all. Not just bad influence, but in all regards and aspects of our "wants and desires".

In some langauges there is no word that equals "insecurity". Do you see what I am getting at?

Why is there no word for that in some cultures? If there is no mass media to produce images of who you are supposed to be, become, strive to be (Through spending money) then there is no insecurity about not becoming that person. Media drives those "dreams" we have in our heads in America.

A culture that not only lacks the word "insecure" but is unable to define or understand it is one that is probaby free of media influence. My point: Media certainly does influence us, although it is a combination of many factors to create a fucked up kid.

Sucka!
