the reason im not hot on them is i dont like zakks vocals, they get pretty boring at times, i preffer how he sung when he was younger, like in pride and glory.

The Beatles or The Stones? with Zakk Wylde

Plus, the BLS man answers your questions

Joe Bosso, Tue 3 Nov 2009, 2:30 pm UTC
The Beatles or The Stones? with Zakk Wylde

Does Zakk Let It Be or Let It Bleed? Read on and find out (? Tim Mosenfelder/Corbis)

Zakk Wylde sprawls his massive frame on the couch in his Manhattan hotel suite and gulps coffee. This is his second cup since I've been in the room, and the guitarist will have several more during the course of our interview.

"Caffeine's all I got, bro," he says. "It's a sad, sad tale of woe, this pitiful existence of mine." And with that, he breaks into fake, overwrought sobs. "I'd cry in my beer, but look around - not a drop in the house. It's tragic!"

In truth, Wylde is brimming with good-natured cheer - which is especially surprising when you consider that the once two-fisted drinker has had to abstain from alcohol - doctor's orders - following a potentially life-threatening bout with blood clots last summer.

It's been a tumultuous year on the professional front as well: after 21 years of working with Ozzy Osbourne, a collaboration that bordered more on a father-and-son relationship than boss and employee, Wylde was replaced - unceremoniously, it would appear - by the little-known Greek guitarist Gus G.

From Eddie Trunk:

02-Nov-09

Great time Saturday night for the Halloween party with BLS. Got to see Zakk for a bit before doors opened and he looked great and was feeling well. Zakk said as a result of the blood clots in his body he will need to be on meds for at least a year and can not touch alcohol. As a result Zakk is now totally sober, and as a result he was playing and singing better than ever, so maybe in a way this health scare will have a silver lining. BLS has a bunch of music now over about 7 studio albums. Much was represented in the set including Bleed For Me, Fire It Up and closer Stillborn. Zakk and the band really were in top form. The stage looked great and it was loud as hell as you would imagine. Zakk did not do any Ozzy or Sabbath material. BLS will soon be working on a new studio album and some material is already written.

Zakk Wylde on his Ozzy split, his health and the future

Kind words for his replacement, Gus G

Joe Bosso, Fri 6 Nov 2009

Now, I know Ozzy is like family to you, but when it all did happen - I know you were kind of kidding - it seemed to take people surprise -

"Well, I found out from Neil Zlozower, 'cause he was doing a photo shoot with Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley. He calls up and goes, 'Hey dude, I hear you're not playing with Ozzy anymore.' I go, 'Where'd you hear this?" And he's like, 'I heard it from Gene and Paul.' So I go, 'Well, I guess I'm not playing with Ozzy!'" [laughs]

But was it a shock?

"It's always been this way: 'We're going out on the road.' It's like, 'When?' 'Tomorrow.' 'What?!'

"I'm the last person to find out anything, you know? 'Wait a minute?I have three kids?' [laughs] 'Yeah, they're 17, 16 and 7, man, so we need some college money now.'

"But I've been with Oz since I was 19; I'm fucking 42 years old. It's just like?like with my dad passing away, same with my mom?I don't go, 'Oh, this sucks.' I never ask; I always thank.

"At least I got to spend 23 years with the boss. And he knows I'll always be there with him. Gus who's playing with him, he's fucking awesome. So I hope he has a millisecond of the good time I had - that's a fucking lifetime. Gus will have a fucking blast, you know what I mean?"
