Here Today...

« on: February 16, 2006, 10:31:23 AM »

has anyone read or heard any of the material that Josh wrote with the guys in VR. im realy eger to check some of it as i am a vary big Josh todd fan. ( seeing buckcherry friday FUCK YEAH ) if anyone knows of anything give me the word.

what would VR be like if BC front man josh todd was the front man for VR?

dont get me wrong on this im am 100% happy with scott in VR. i mean now BC is back. the to greatest rock N' roll bands since GNR. but if Josh got the job i think the music would have much more attitude. it would push the envelope more then they allready do. i mean people want to here music that there parents wouldnt aprove of. no hold bars fuck rules rock n' roll. imo there are only 3 real rock bands in main stream. GNR VR BC.

i think scott holds VR back. Slash solo'd properly with other singers, why not with scott? And i think scotts vocal range is very limited.

Josh Todd would have been perfect...hes got the look, the tude and he writes some good, kick ass, slease rock songs.  Very fitting with Slash and Duff if you ask me.  Hes a rock star.

Scotts ok....just doesn't do it for me...songs a very average and boring after a few listens.

I still listen to all my BC and JT albums though.  Tell me theres not a cooler song then "Lit Up" that gets you totally fired up and ready to kick ass.  Great tune.

Slither is the only good VR song.

fuck josh todd, I wanna hear the material Travis Meeks(Days of the New) did with Slash and Co. Travis has a kickass voice and is an awesome songwriter. I was disappointed when he talked shit about Slash and duff after he didnt get the gig

wow are you kidding,VR wanted a rock star,a big reason they chose Weiland. josh todd is not a rock star, buckcherry never was shit compared to a band like STP,Scott is a way better songwriter than wannabe josh todd, also almost every VR song save for a couple are better than any JT or BC songs. BC were basically a one hit wonder, VR already has had more hits than them, with only one record

Man,  the BC track "Lit Up" wraps Scotts ball right around his fucking head, any day of the week. If I had a choice of having ALL of STPs tunes and just "Lit up" I would go Buck. I never even dug STP, I don't think Weiland has anything in common musically) with the Guns cats and it shows like a mofo. Lit up has a similar stream of consciousness as Guns had and I think its a fact. I can't relate to Scotts images and such.

Absolutely....grunge is so passe'....not many grunge bands where I can throw on a disc and get through a song without hittting the skip button.  Its just a very dated sound.

Something tells me you haven't listened to any other BC song besides what you heard on the radio.  Check out their debut album and then let me know what you think - its pretty kick ass.  Believe me, I REALLY wanted to like VR and was rooting for slash, duff and scott to kick my ass, but they missed big time.  Very average record.

I think they picked Scott b/c STP has a larger fan base and he was more famous, thus they'd sell more records.  In my opinion it was a total marketing move - which is pretty un-rock n' roll.  STPs first two discs are decent, but its all down hill from there....I own all of them, even "thank you" but they're just average discs, nothing to go nuts over.  I'm not saying BC is the greatest band in the world, but for an LA, sleaze, in your face rock band, its Josh Todd over Scotty  ANY day.

Josh Todd is a rockstar. Maybe those that think not believe it's not cool to be one these days  Undecided

I think SW holds VR back in certain ways as well. He rejected all the Izzy stuff point blank no

But all's good since Buckcherry's back together for the most part. VR can go do another Weiland album, or dance album, or whatever.

I also think Scott is responsible for "holding" Slash in, cause he wants to avoid the GN'R sound at all costs. There is stuff on Contraband that sounds like STP not vocal but music wise. I think Scott just picked the songs out from the demos that sounded more like STP and not like GN'R. I think there are demos of Project songs which are much better music wise with Slash soloing his ass off. I remember Dave saying there was stuff from UYI 4 (he said 4 Grin) till the Stones sounding.

Also I think Matt is a big reason for them sounding modern, he even said before Contraband was recorded he wanted it to sound as a modern rockband. I think he cares more for the modern sound then anyone else in the band (except Scott).

And I've read this interview from the early days (I've looked for it but can't find it) about a frontman, they said that Slash in the beginning had no trouble with Izzy fronting on vocals, Duff was still doubting and Matt was against it. He said he wanted a "real" singer to front the band and eventually he pursued Duff and Slash into it.

Josh Todd is one of the worst lyricists of all time.

Weiland should not want to make Gn'R styled Music. That was for Gn'R to make. Don't you get it?

I like Josh Todd and all to a certain extent, but c'mon.  "I'm a big-dicked, motherfuckin' porno star?"  "Hey, you're crazy bitch, but you fuck so good I'm on top of it?"  That just a bit juvenile for my taste in large quantities.  There's no substance to it.  Songs like Interstate Love Song, Silvergun Superman, Kitchenware and Candy bars, Adhesive, and Trippin' offer a bit more in terms of subject manner.  Buckcherry has its place, but it's more for those meatheaded "I wanna kick some fuckin ass" moods.  Also, calling STP grunge doesn't show a great grasp on Weiland's catalogue.  What exactly is grunge anyway?  You may be surprised to find out that one of STP's fans' biggest complaints with VR is that their musical tastes are nowhere near as creative as what Weiland w/ the Deleos or on his own brought to the table.

I have a pretty good grasp...every STP album and most of 12 bar blues.  I think STP would be classified as grunge just b/c of when they came out, but yes, their sound did evolve beyond that.  But I don't think when it did it was anything special.  Some good tunes here and there, but nothing great.
As for JT, yes, I agree...those songs are "kick ass moods" but isn't a lot of GNR that way too (pretty tied up, back off bitch, anything goes"?  I think for slash and duff that would have been cool.  And BC has more then just Porno Star and Crazy Bitch.  Listen to Drink The Water, Check your head.....not all their songs are about F'ing.

What the fuck is his poland spring water fuckin delivery being delivered or what the fuck,  ....................that cat is toooooooo pretentious for me, he wishes he was as heavy as Morrison. He needs a smack for that Halford "hat" thing too. Ya know it would look cool if he was pulling it off with cool music. But he just looks like he is leavin on a midnight train to trans-testicle-transylvania. I'm not a mo phobe, to me he just doesn't fit the Guns rock ethic. I know you'll say that there a "new" band and all, but come on, you have to stay a little close to the formula man, come on.  He should think about reforming Right Said Fred, I really think he could create the old magic with them. In My Opinion..........so go hump somebody elses leg if you don't like it. Freedom of speach. USA and Slash #1.......

I think hes lost it Smiley  Cleary I think he forgets these mind blowing lyrics:

"Tied up Tied down up against the wall be my rubbermade baby and we can do it all"

or

"She's pretty tied up hanging upside down,
She's pretty tied up and you can ride her,
She's pretty tied up hanging upside down,
I can't tell you she's the right one,"

I don't see much difference between the tone there and in the BC songs you mentioned (not comparing the songs, but the lyrics).

And what does "guns rock ethic" mean?

Hannahat, you make some good points, and I have always seen a lot of the similarities between BC's kick and GnR's.  Remember, I said I actually like Josh Todd in certain amounts...in fact I've been jamming Crazy Bitch an awful lot lately.  My point was that I have different moods, and more often Weiland's stuff fits those moods better than Josh Todd's.  Plus, I wouldn't want VR to be a second rate GNR, and I think that might be the case if JT was fronting them.  I'll also give you that Weiland's lyrics can be hit or miss, but I cut him some slack due to the fact I find him and his schtick quite entertaining.

Tallarico, on the other hand, I was simply stating my opinion...never said you had to agree.  I tend to enjoy the more androgenous frontmen (Bowie, Jagger, Weiland, Halford, fuck even Butch Walker who might have the best voice of anyone singing right now).  You know, different strokes for different folks.
