people talk about axl having a rasp in his voice. what exactly is a rasp is it the sound he makes when when he sings 'my hands are tied' in civil war?

A rasp can be developed a couple ways. Lots of smokers have them; a lot of the time it happens when the trachea is stressed and messed up. As for as I can tell, there isn't a real rasp on that line, but a little in that verse.

those are probably my favorite few seconds of any guns n roses tune. The few seconds right before, during, and after "My hands are tied!".
