to show the film we must first start off on a good note
Thats not true, and dont make a major mistake by going down the "good old boys become rock stars" trap. There was no good note. Axl, and the rest of the guys, were fucked up from the start. Axl fled his troubles in Indiana at a young age, and had no idea what he would be getting himself into. I would start from there. Also, you should read old Axl interviews and get as much info as you can on his childhood/teen years. That way you can insert flashbacks at various points in your script. Am I going to be paid a fee for giving all this great advice? Shocked

That was horrible. Pretty much for all the reasons stated prior.

Everyone knows any GNR movie would have to start off with a kid version of Axl singing for his church choir, then it goes on from there.

There is no way now I can get him to let me post more. My friend is now pissed at me thanks to you guys! I guess we got more than we where asking for here rofl ....It's all good though.

"good old boys become rock stars" trap.? This is not going to happen. Its only a few pages you're seeing.

Why would he be pissed at getting great advice for a script rewrite? Doesn't make sense. Either he's not  dedicated to the project, or this whole thread is meant to be a fucking joke.

Jameslofton29's screenwriting advice stops now!

Me (I'm not $$ involved yet) and The guy who is working on this

Carefull , words like that and you'll reveal your , your , your ... ahhhhh ...... source!!!!

Yet, to show the film we must first start off on a good note

It's you and Stephen Spielberg isnt it? James Cameron? George Lucas?! Big Boss from Sp1at?!

I'm pissed at your friend for writing it and at you for posting it , we got more then we were asking for!!  Cry

D+ , mainly for the effort you put into typing it up .. if you copy and pasted it from text files then you get an F.

The script (hopefully) stops now!!!  ok

It sounds like an old episode of Scooby Doo.

My God, that almost made me fall of my seat! This is utter bullshit, even I could write a better screenplay than this

The Gn'R Film was going to be  Documentry film, it was to be called THE PERFECT CRIME.

It was the band going through the Illusion tour (GnR filmed every show on that tour) and just that kind of thing.

Slash and Axl talked about it in 1994 (although it started getting mentioned by the band in 91/92) saying there are plans for it they're just waiting for someone to look at all the footage.

Although they also mentioned that the follow up album to the Illusions would be released soon . . . . . . . . . . . .

I just hope that the goal from the get-go for any GN'R movie is a gritty, realistic, pseudo-documentary with young, hungry unknown actors (with an appreciation of the music and GN'R's impact)... a finished product that would kick a$$ at Cannes or Sundance for example... not some lame attempt at a Hollywood mega-film.

Shoot for a cult classic- and you might just find it blows up big on it's own because it's authentic and well done. Shoot for the academy awards any you'll likely get laughed out of Hollywood.

Whatever you do... GET IT RIGHT.... or you'll be hearing from Mr. Rose's well-seasoned legal team... hell, you'll probably be hearing from them anyway. hihi

Good luck!

PS All the characters (of the original band) are colorful and interesting, but in the interest of the story and avoiding a 5 hour long movie (though many of us would dig that)- it would be wise to focus on Axl and Izzy in particular, and a good part of the "foundation" of the film has to involve rural Indiana... or "Auschwitz" as Axl would call it... that's where the story starts...

PS Definitely take a look at the Welcome to the Jungle and Sweet Child O' Mine videos... I think those videos more than any other accurately capture the original GN'R aura... I would definitely use those to get a sense of what the "vibe" and "mood" the film needs to have... Hell, I forgot his name (____ Dick? I think.), but you may want to look at some of the director's other work. Possibly even contact him... that dude NAILED it... and is hugely responsibile in his own way for the rise of Guns N' Roses.... Those videos blew the doors off anything else MTV was playing at that time... every other rock band just looked like a bunch of poser f@gs in their videos compared to the "image" Guns had out of the gate thanks to those two videos...

Great post. Anyone who makes a GNR film should definitely take that advice, but take it a step further. Watch all their videos. It basically tells the story of the GNR breakup itself. From the hungry and dangerous AFD era, to the seemingly cool, calm, and collected vibe of Patience, to the waste, excess, overindulgence of UYI and the band not even giving a fuck about its final videos.
You hit the nail on the head about GNR blowing the door off what MTV had going at the time. I remember they were playing alot of U2, Midnight Oil, Terence Trent Darby, Madonna, Bon Jovi, David Lee Roth, etc. GNR showing up on MTV gave new meaning to 'a breath of fresh air'. You just knew at the time it was unlike anything you had heard before, or would ever hear again. The filmaker would somehow have to "capture" ?on film that special feeling you got inside when hearing GNR for the first time, and I dont know if thats possible. You cant recreate that strong of an emotion. The feeling was so strong, that 13 years and counting without an album, we post daily on a message board and hope for just a small taste of that magic.
It will be a monumental task for whoever takes on a GNR project in the future. I dont even think one man could do it. It might require some type of collaboration between several different directors. Of course, to properly do it you would need to have coooperation of all the band members. Because without the truth, the movie would be pointless.

yeah and that`s the reason why there won?t be any GOOD gnr movies in the near future......it`s not like you score a movie about eminem who tells you whatever the fuck he wants and even plays himself......this is gnr....

Also, couldn't Axl ask Sanctuary (who bought his 1/3 interest in the catalog) to refuse to agree to license the back catalog for such a movie?

That's a MAJOR issue... without the music... you might as well be working on a porno script starring Osama bin Laden...

LOL. Great thread. Bad bad script. Seriously, I really think I would be embarrassed to see a GnR film play out like that. It would compare favorably with From Justin to Kelly though.....
