Anyone notice a Janis Joplin influence in Axl? It just hit me the other day that just watching him onstage reminds me of her. Just the way he carries himself.

I always thought so too. She had a lot of intensity in her voice.  Axl's screams are slightly similar to hers.

I'll always remember the first time I heard "Cry Baby" and though with myself: "Well, i haven't heard this Guns N' Roses' song...it's cool!!"

Then I knew that it was Janis Joplin's  Roll Eyes ...

He used to sing a lot like her during the 85/88 era...

She wasn't a very techinique singer, but she used to sing with her heart, and that's amazing!!! I only saw other two womans who used to sing with as mutch soul and energy as Janis, and they are Aretha Franklin and Elis Regina(a Brazilian singer, she was mind-blowing!!! But, as joplin, died young... Cry) She is the coolest female rock singer of all time!! I Love her!!

Joplin's voice has been described as 'soaked in whiskey'. Axl's voice is different, but they both sing from their heart & soul!

I know that Axl has mentioned Freddie Mercury and Elton John as being influences.  But are there any interviews where he has mentioned Janice?   The Axl of '86-'89  does remind me of Janice, but the later Axl reminds me more of Freddie.

I'd love to hear him cover some old tunes of hers.  yes

I can't tell you how many times I've almost started a thread like this. Janis' voice IS the female version of Axl, imo. Listen to Down on me, and Bye, bye baby. Axl could devastate these songs. Janis does an awesome job all by herself, though.
