i agree, it would be a sign of...well, maybe not defeat, but a sign that he couldn't do it without them..especially izzy, then slash.

but i think axl could give a shit less about his appeal to the general population...shit, he doesn't give much of a shit about us.....or atleast doesn't really acknowledge us. but on a side note, thats why he's the last true, real rockstar. he's from the path of hero's....beatles-stature, zeppelin-stature, early aero-stature......Axl Rose is Elvis, John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Jimmy Page.....Axl Rose......IS........as mystical and unreachable as any star we've ever known in this country....i guess that's why he still demands respect, recognition, and attention everywhere he goes.....(well, whenever he goes to something public....he's given THE respect)

Im just saying, back to the post, that I think Axl is breaking some kinda ice with some old ties he has....he misses Slash, its written all over that quote.

GUYS, AXL MISSES SLASH!!!! I just get this feeling he wants that good feeling from the past back in his stomach again. I think he'll let this CD play out, Im sure its going to rock, but after that, I wouldnt be surprised to first see VR go under, then THE announcement.

Ok, and by the same token, we have a man (Axl) who has dedicated 14 years and 15 million on his project and is intent on changing the music scene and being on top once again by his own merits (CD).  He has to look good in the eyes of fans.

I dont think he mentioned Slash & Izzy just to look good in the eyes of fans.  First of all, it takes away attention from the new band that he wants to promote (why couldnt he say "I spoke to Tommy recently").

IF, however, he makes some kind of statement about the Philly incident, I would concede that he is trying to patch things up with the fans.

Just to be clear, I dont think it's a sign of a reunion.  I'm just happy that they're on speaking terms.

Well, cheers ?beer for being optimistic. And you never know, it could happen, but I think it would be 7 to 10 years before we see any inkling of a reunion.  Pehaps around RIR HOF time (2012).

yeah...hall of fame time.........man, i wonder what that is going to be like.....hopefully axl wouldn't shun that.

but axl has this way of giving up the respect to certain people or groups he likes. he's very respectful to people like elton john, queen, zeppelin. hopefully he'll recognize the institution of the HOF

I totally agree

Axl misses Slash and I am sure Slash misses Axl as well...Yet, we are talking about too big egoes and too many issues involved ( a lawsuit, for eg. )...I don't see any original GnR reunion coming soon  no...although I'd surely love it... Cry

I love the fact that I know as soon as something *substantial* comes along in terms of news, we (the HTGTH peeps) get online and are all over it!  I just wanna say, it's awsome that Axl has such dedicated fans!

No, it's not. Remember, the article says clearly: "a reunion seems unlikely".

Just because they are not fighting with one another doesnt mean they have a desirte to work together once again.

Bands are like marriages. Ex's can be on good terms, but theyre not gonna sleep together again.

Exactly maybe it's a matter of just wanting to be civil with the old guys and put the past behind him as he goes forward with his new band! confused

yeah...it could be, and probably is, just that.

just seems odd though....the first words we hear from Axl in years has Slash and Izzy along with "love" and "just spoke to" in them.

Dude. Nothing is "brewing." NOTHING.

Maybe a reunion SOMEDAY.. but its not being talked about now.

Slash "knew" about the Chinese Democracy in March thing because of GH2. There was probably a ultimatum concerning Chinese Democracy... and Slash knew that because GH@ wasnt coming out.. so it ment Axl had agreed on the march date.

Axl and Izzy have talked before. Jesus.

Axl said essentally the same "love" comment in the RS2000 issue.

You people need to stop. Nothing is brewing. Not even close.  confused

Whoa, Axl speaks. That's pretty cool. I for one am interested to hear something from him. All this time and effort has to count for something right?

As for what happens after the album drops? I sincerely doubt you will see GnR at the level they were at during Appetite or UYI. The world of music has changed too much, and if this album is going to have that layer of Queen-like complexity then I don't know how much of a force it will be on the charts. The people that put records on the charts, ie: the pop-culture consumers don't have the attention-span or the kind of taste it would require to get something as epic as what Axl is describing.

But whatever, chart success doesn't really mean much. I just want to hear something quality from these guys.

They don't have the attention span for Ax's kind of music becasue nobody is making that kind of music.  They don't know any better.

I think people are over-estimating the "impact" of not having the original line-up along.... sure it may irritate a certain segment of the die-hards to semi-die-hards, but the GENERAL PUBLIC!?!? They could give a fvck... they just want a cool album to put on their i-pod... in that regard... Axl will need a few cool, catchy songs to grab people's attention before hitting them with the heavy sh1t.

Plus, the "youngsters" (current teenagers) won't give a damn... they've been hearing about this legend Axl Rose and how dangerous and cool everything was when he was on top, etc. They're not going to get hung-up on the politics of the old band. They'll just want to see if Axl lives up to his advance billing. Crazy, but  some of them are so young they probably don't even realize that Robin Finck was in NIN- so... I don't think they have the AFD or UYI line-up's memorized by heart or anything...

Motley Crue where succesful without a hit? single because it was the original band reforming after years, had Axl been with the original guys as GNR it would have been a different story, album or not.
you're absolutly right on that.
