So not cool, why they don't have a Toronto show is weird....

There will be more dates announced, Euro festivals are in the works but not confirmed.

Look for more North American dates later on as well, I would expect a few Canadian dates
to surface then.

It's funny to read someone on the Cult board bitch about Ians appearance last night. Ians response was great, Get a calendar that reads 2006.

I cant wait for these next 6 days to go by and get to Vegas beer

He's definitely buffed up, he'd mentioned within the forum on their official site being in the gym quite a bit of late, rehabbing a twisted spine of all things.

The Cult Seek New Followers

 

After Doors of the 21st Century, Ian Astbury reforms his rock crew British rockers Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy have reformed the Cult for A Return to Wild, a nineteen-date cross-country tour kicking off March 1st in San Francisco. Three years down the line, Astbury claims that he put the band on hold, after the release of 2001's Beyond Good and Evil, to save it from imploding.
"We were one of the first bands to experience the whole sinking-of-the-Titanic which is the music industry. People were doing horrendous things to friends and co-workers," he says during a break from tour rehearsals in Los Angeles. "So the Cult was put on ice because I didn't want to destroy it."

In the years following, Duffy threw himself into projects, making music as Siddons with Alice in Chains guitarist Jerry Cantrell, as well as acting: He co-stars alongside Korn frontman Jonathan Davis in the upcoming horror film Sin-Jin Smyth. Meanwhile, Astbury took on the duties of the late Jim Morrison, touring with the Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek and Robbie Krieger as the Doors of the 21st Century. His time with the legendary Sixties rockers -- who were recently forced to disassociate themselves from the "Doors" name after a legal battle with their former drummer, John Densmore -- inspired Astbury to reconsider his creative relationships.

"Working with those guys really helped me to finesse myself as a human being," he says. "Because all of a sudden, I wasn't 'Ian Astbury of the Cult' -- but I'm definitely not 'Ian Astbury of the Doors,' I had no delusions of that. I had to look at myself and my own shortcomings and strengths and deal with a lot of internal issues."

Astbury realized "the futility" of putting off a reconciliation with Duffy, and the two began talking again last fall. They went on to re-recruit bassist Chris Wyse, who played on Beyond, and drummer John Tempesta (White Zombie) for this spring's trek. The group, in production for just over a week, already has an eighteen-song set down, including "Wild Flower," "Wonderland" and their classic "She Sells Sanctuary."

"It's very exciting right now, because the rehearsals have been going so well and it's authentic," says the singer. "I'm playing the music, and I'm feeling the music. I've definitely been onstage with the Cult and not felt it -- and that's the worst feeling in the world. So this is very gratifying. These songs feel fresh."

Astbury insists, however, that we not call it a comeback. "This run of dates is called A Return to Wild -- not Resurrection, Insurrection, Sonic Interjection, Revival. It's fucking authentically real," he says. The name may be in response to Astbury's recent read of Jack London's Call of the Wild.

THE CULT were joined by special guest Jerry Cantrell (ALICE IN CHAINS) during their brief secret show at the Cinespace bar in Hollywood, California Monday night (Feb. 27). The band, who kicked off their "Return To Wild" U.S. tour Wednesday (March 1) in San Francisco, played a five-song set consisting of the following tracks:

01. Lil Devil
02. Peace
03. Wild Flower
04. Love Removal Machine (special guest: Jerry Cantrell)
05. Rain

The band were reportedly "fanastic" and blew two amps during their performance. Billy Gibbons (ZZ TOP) was reportedly in the audience

Just got in alittle while ago  from the House of Blues show in San Diego. The Cult were awesome live, this was my first time seeing them. The crowd was totally into every song except one little rarity they pulled out "Brother Wolf / Sister Moon"
I caught Ians tambourine that he tossed into the crowd, and got him to sign it after the show. Ian's a cool dude. He stopped to sign autographs, take pictures, and talk with every person that wanted to. I have a wicked headache right now but when I listen back to my Instant Live disc, I'll post the set list.

BTW, a little public service announcement, in case you dont know:

If you are going to a concert at House of Blues and you eat there before the show, they will validate your receipt and you get a skip the line pass for early entrance into the venue. I think you just have to spend at least $25 dollars on food or in the gift shop.

I had a blast.  They opened the show with music from A Clockwork Orange - I thought that was neat.   They played a lot of their big ones including my favorite, Sweet Soul Sister.

Ian was very chatty and funny thoughout.  He said LA had been a sort of hometown for them since 1984.

Did you get the Instant Live Disc? The quality for the show I went to was fantastic.

At the Vegas show Ian was trying to get the crowd riled up and dropped this great quote: "Come on. This aint no fucking Velvet Revolver show" hihi
