"Beyond Good And Evil" is a heavy record, not for the feint of heart by any means.
That's an awesome heavy rock record, it's what I was hoping to get from VR before they put out Contraband.
I found a few similarities with the 2 records, both riff driven and groove oriented with abstract lyrical content. In the end, Contraband is probably a bit more accessible to the casual listener while "Beyond Good And Evil" lends itself more to a darker taste. During promotion for the record,
Duffy said something to the affect, "We're here to rid you of the likes of Coldplay", which gives you a good idea what direction they were headed.

I was too young the first time around, but if they get together again, I'm definitely there
But...how are they going to tour without promoting anything? (dont make the obvious GNR reference
) I'm just wondering if it's gonna be limited to small nightclubs in a few select cities or what?
The song I most want to hear live is Sweet Soul Sister. Amazing guitar and great lyrics. That's the cool thing about The Cult is that you can read the lyrics on their own, and they have a timeless feel to them.

Early speculation is they'll be promoting some reissues, nothing concrete just yet.
When they initially reformed in '99 after a four year hiatus, they did venues anywhere up to 3000 with nothing to promote, kept it very intimate.? All dates sold like crazy, closing that tour with a still record 9 night stand at the House Of Blues on Sunset.?
No word on how this tour will shape up as of yet, all specifics wil probably be determined by level of interest.

Matt Sorum joined the band to tour for Sonic Temple, but he didn't play on the album. The only Cult album Matt plays on is Beyond Good & Evil (Falcon correct me if I'm wrong), and that album kicks ass, I highly recommend that one if you like great produced heavy rock n roll!

What do you recommend for my first Cult album, as I want to check them out now, Falcon?
Two ways to go dirt, if you want to immerse yourself in the band you need to start at the beginning.? Buy "Dreamtime" and "Love", Dreamtime captures the band near the end of the British post punk scene while Love vaulted them to forefront of the Goth scene.? Love features the classic "She Sells Sanctuary".? Test the waters with those 2 then move ahead from there.
If you're not wanting to get too involved, buy "Pure Cult - For Rockers Ravers, Lovers and Sinners".
It's a greatest hits package that features all the hits from 84-95, nothing from 2001's "Beyond Good And Evil".? For that, download "Rise" if you're just wanting the hits.? Hell, PM me I'll send it to you...

That's correct, Matt's only proper recording with the Cult is on BG&E.? He did some demos with them during the Sonic Temple World Tour that appear on the Rare Cult Box set.
More Cult related news today:
This just in, Billy Morrison let the cat out of the bag with the announcement of a new project "Circus Diablo" featuring himself, Billy Duffy and Matt Sorum along with former Almighty frontman Ricky Warwick.? Morrison on vox, Duffy on lead guitar, Warwick on second guitar, Matt on the kit.? Morrison will handle bass duties in the studio.? A demo is complete, recorded at Sorum's "Drac Studio".
Morrison is adamant about this being a side project for all involved, possible live dates soon.

"Love" is their best album.
The Cult was like the middle band between Metal/AOR and Alt. Rock. IMHO of course.

As Billy M said, it's side project for all involved.?
Here's more from Morrison on Circus Diablo:
"
So ? here we go. Circus Diablo began with some songwriting sessions with Billy Duffy, Ricky Warwick and myself. For no reason other than to write some rock songs and have some fun. We ended up writing quite a few tracks, and we have begun to record a few of them over at Drac Studios, owned by Matt Sorum. He has been playing drums on the recordings (as well as co-producing the tracks with us), Billy and Ricky have been recording the guitars, and I have ?.. well, I appear to be the singer! It feels good to be able to express myself in this way. (I haven?t done that since Stimulator). All three of us have a myriad of other commitments, so this is just a homegrown, cottage industry-type affair. But we have enjoyed writing music together, and we are definitely enjoying recording music together. If schedules permit, we might even go and play a few shows together. But we are doing everything ourselves, and are not out there thinking about deals, tours, release dates etc. Take it for what it is ? a reason to be creative, a reason to make music. So there you have it".
Don't be surprised if Matt is behind the kit for The Cult this summer, it'll be him or Scott Garrett...

I highly doubt it, as they released remastered copies of virtually their entire catalogue just 5 years ago (mid-2000). I highly recomend picking them up --- the remasters have superior sound compared to the orignal CD's (released in 1987). I highly doubt they would tinker with them again. But then again, what the hell do I know...

That's correct, most was indeed remastered and released. Agreed, very high quality.
More specifically, a reissue of "Dreamtime Live At The Lyceum" on DVD is what I was refering to.
Word should be coming soon enough.

I hope they will be around California for awhile. I'm going to San Diego 10 days after that show for the World Baseball Championships. I would love to get to see the Cult also.

Looks as though the March 5 gig is drawing lots of attention, this from ChuckSevenEagles on the cultweb.com
Overloaded inquiries about Mar.5th gig!!!!
Apparently, there has been an overload of phone calls and people asking to buy tickets for the March 5th event.
I got several e-mails from some stating that they couldn't punch up the Find Tickets section on Ticketmaster.com to purchase tickets for the gig.
I called and spoke with John at Ticketmaster there in S. California, and he told me that the venue "Key Club" in Cabazon has requested that Ticketmaster hold all ticket sales for the event on the website until further notice. He gave me the phone number for the ticket counter at the Key Club in Cabazon and I called there and spoke with Ashley.
She said that they've been so backed-up with phone calls about The CULT that it maybe necessary to change the venue location to a bigger one. She asked that I call back the first of next week and she would have additional information for me regarding the show.
So, if you can't get thru and can't buy a ticket, just hold on and I'll let everyone know what the deal is by the first of the week, OK?
I've heard this is a new establishment, and maybe the staff weren't prepared for this major announcement and/or the place isn't big enough.
