Looks like new material will see the light of day in 2010, not exactly sure when but I'm hearing spring/summer.

From what I've been told by those who've heard the demos, it's extremely groove laden and riff driven.

I hope something became of the song they jammed at EXIT Festival back in 2006. Was just Mike on guitar as Bill (as usual hihi) was having bother with his rig. BIT was pretty alright but whatever that was never made it onto the record.

From what I've been told, that jam was just that - a jam.  I'm sure they've got it down somewhere in the archives but no idea if it'll ever be used on a proper recording

Wonder what direction they'll take on the new record. BG&E was great but suffered slightly from over glossy production whereas Born Into This was a much rawer affair. Guessing it will retain the live sounding production but maybe be a bit meatier. Been listening to the Rare Cult box set again recently. Absolutely love the song "North". Got the alt rock riffs from Billy & the jingly jangle from Johnny Marr. 2 Manc guitar legends on one track ok

With Chris Goss producing the new material, I would expect it to be very Queens Of The Stone Age-ish in.  Less is more with a heavy backbeat.

BG&E had it's day, "RISE" still being the highlight for me.  That said, it took a over a year to get done and loses a bit of 'in the moment" feel.

BIT is a totally different animal, very much a "right here, right now" undertaking.  Recorded in less than 2 months and a great snapshot of a point in time.

Haven't listened to Rare Cult in a while, Duffy and Marr together are amazing.

Check out their version of "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly", absolutely haunting...

Duffy and Marr together are amazing.

Too true. Would like to hear more collaboration between the two. They're good mates so it would be cool if they did something. Maybe even just Billy guesting on some Marr solo material or Johnny guesting on new Cult stuff. Also liked the Coloursound record Billy did with Mike Peters a few years back. Cool to hear Mike's voice on top of much rockier material than he did previously in The Alarm.

I'd love to see Billy and Johnny hook up and do something, Duffy guesting on a Marr solo project would be something special.  Marr's "Boomslang" remains  one of my favorite records.

Those two are literally the last of the British gun slingers, the (guitar) foundation and influence(s) of that partifcular era..

As for Coloursound, I always considered it "Cult Lite".  Mike's a helluva song writer, he and BD's collaboration was a cool change of pace for both.
