Thanks go to www.cultcentral.com for the following:

Vinyl 180 is rereleasing the Love album on March 9, 2009 on 180g vinyl with updated artwork. It will be released as a single disc version and a double disc version, too. Check it out here:

http://www.vinyl180.com/Vinyl_180_%3A_The_Cult.html

Its is nice to see the Cult joining the vinyl re-issue gang.

Although in general I wish re-issues would be more concentrated on material from time periods where vinyl production was at its lowest, like post late 80s to early 2000s.  It is easy to find most pre-late 80s albums at a decent price already.  For instance, Van Halen just re-issued its first record, but it is so easy to find a NM original pressing for $5 bucks, why pay $25?  Then you have LPs that were pressed in limited amounts from mid 90s to early 2000s that are going for $100+, case in point GNR's "Live: Era 87-93" goes for well over $100 on ebay, the Illusions sometimes, as well as Pantera LPs.

On the flipside, re-issues from the 60s and early 70s are very welcomed, since at times it is hard to find an album in decent condition (beatles, doors, etc).

From the NME:

Today's top gossip:

Noel Gallagher wants to form a Manchester City supergroup with fellow musical supporters, who he says include Johnny Marr, Billy Duffy, Doves, Damon Gough, Mike Pickering, and members of Super Furry Animals and The Coral. The Oasis guitarist says he'd even invite Rick Wakeman into the band.

THE CULT: New Tour Dates Announced - Feb. 18, 2009

THE CULT has scheduled the following dates:

May 01 - Memphis, TN @ Beale Street Music Festival
Jul. 10 - Lockport, NY @ Ulrich City Center

In other news, Vinyl 180 will release a remastered edition of THE CULT's "Love" album on March 9, 2009 on 180g vinyl with updated artwork. It will be released as a single-disc and a double-disc version. The limited-edition version (see image below) features an extra disc of "She Sells Sanctuary" remixes. The redesigned heavyweight gatefold sleeve has the wing motif foil-blocked in silver with picture labels and heavyweight inner bags.

Fan-filmed video footage of THE CULT's September 9, 2008 concert at the 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C. can be viewed below (clip uploaded by YouTube user "SonicWindmill").

THE CULT last year parted ways with Roadrunner Records, the label that released the group's latest album, "Born into This". That CD sold 12,600 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 70 on The Billboard 200 chart. It was recorded in London with producer Youth (VERVE, PRIMAL SCREAM).

THE CULT's current touring lineup includes principals Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy alongside bassist Chris Wyse, drummer John Tempesta (ex-WHITE ZOMBIE, TESTAMENT, EXODUS, HELMET) and rhythm guitarist Mike Dimkich.

Ian and Mike Dimkich appeared recently at the rock roll jeweler Stephen Websters event debuting his 2009 collection:

Billy Duffy and Ian Astbury of the band The Cult gave Webster a signed guitar. ?I?ve been a fan since 1980,? said the jeweler, who added that he also design guitars.

The Cult's "Behind the Music" was filmed during the "Beyond Good and Evil" tour and aired on VH1 around late 2001/early 2002 here in the states with a different narrator.

It's a fairly solid telling of the bands story up until then although a little too "Behind the Ian" for me.

Best quote of the show was definitely by Matt Sorum concerning Billy Duffy -

"Billy's a straight up rock guy, he likes to play his guitar and get laid."

Pretty sure that was done in May of 01 on "Atlanta's Rock Alternative - 99x" as a prelude
to The Cult's headlining appearance at the Midtown Music Festival..
