Ran across this, had to have been around '87 when The Cult and GNR were on the road together on the North American leg of the "Electric" tour:

Looks like the boys will be playing Sundance Jan 20th..

http://blogs.sltrib.com/burger/2009/01/harry-os-line-up.htm

Harry O's, the premier music venue in Park City during the Sundance Film Festival, will play host to an entire week of top-tier musical acts for the first time.

Usually, the nightclub only has household-name acts for the first weekend, but the president of Harry O's said that there are two reasons for having 10 nights of big acts: many stars will be coming into town after President-elect Barack Obama's inauguration, and he wants to launch a live streaming Website that will feature the performers of the last three nights of the festival.

Tickets for all concerts range from $100 to $250 for general-admission seats.

Harry O's is located at 427 Main St.

The list is:

Thursday, Jan. 15: Nick Cannon
Friday, Jan. 16: Young Jeezy, hosted by Kim Kardashian (above)
Saturday, Jan. 17: T.I.
Sunday, Jan. 18: Robin Thicke
Monday, Jan. 19: Camp Freddy (Dave Navarro, Matt Sorum) with Mark McGrath and Billy Gibbons. Ozzy Osbourne might come, but he is unconfirmed. The latest I've heard is there is an 80 percent chance he WILL come.
Tuesday, Jan. 20: The Cult
Wednesday, Jan. 21: Macy Gray and Common
Thursday, Jan. 22: Yung Joc and Kevin Rudolf
Friday, Jan. 23: C-Lo of Gnarls Barkley and Big Boi of Outkast
Saturday, Jan. 24: Nas and N.E.R.D. with Pharrell Williams

Tickets are scheduled to be made available Wednesday morning at SmithsTix and www.yayatickets.com.

And a blurb about The Cult's show tonight at Harry O's..

http://blogs.sltrib.com/sundance/

Join The Cult tonight

One night after Cult guitarist Billy Duffy riffed through his set with Camp Freddy, he will once again take the stage at Harry O's at 427 Main St. tonight.

The legendary English rock band The Cult perform tonight.

Tickets are $100 at Harry O's and YaYaTickets.com.

Fun facts about The Cult:
1. The longest-serving band members are singer Ian Astbury and Duffy, both of whom are the band's songwriters.
2. The band formed in 1981.
3. Drummer Matt Sorum left the band to become the drummer for Guns n' Roses when the band kicked Stephen Adler out for drug problems. Sorum is now the drummer for Velvet Revolver and Camp Freddy.
4. The band plans on releasing its ninth album in 2009.
5. There are 21 former members of the band. No joke.

Thanks to http://blogs.sltrib.com/sundance/ and www.cultcentral.com for the following:

The Cult show no signs of aging

"The Cult played to a packed house Tuesday night at Harry-O's in Park City, and proved that just because there's snow on the roof doesn't mean there's not a fire in the house. What could have turned out like some awkward Spinal Tap-ish croakfest from the eighties hit makers, was instead a full-on rock-n-roll throw down. Singer Ian Astbury still has one of the strongest, most recognizable voices in rock history. Interjecting political views between songs, and dealing with a few technical issues during their iconic hit Fire, the Brits pushed ahead and put on one helluva strong show."

Thanks to www.cultcentral.com and "ResurrectionJames" for the following review
of The Cult's gig at Sundance last night

"Amazing night last night - No new songs debuted, and just two from BIT (Illuminated, DLR). I was right in front of Billy, who was en fuego - having a good time and really no technical issues. I had a hard time hearing the vocals from right in front of Billy's Roland/Vox/Marshall setup, but the band was very tight. Ian's mic problem was during Sweet Soul Sister, which was pretty quickly remedied - band didn't miss a beat. Pretty standard setlist, though I did my best to add some color, yelling, "Outlaw!", "Moya!", "In The Clouds!", and other favorites that I knew wouldn't be played, but might get a smile and nod from Duffy.

Highlights for me personally were scoring a Duffy guitar pic (blue with The Cult/Taurus sign on one side, Iron Cross/'Duffy' on the other), and Ian sort of acknowledging me in the crowd, either from previous brief meetings we've had at shows or my Cult Electric '87 tour shirt - cool moment either way.

Crowd was lukewarm as far as I could tell from up front, which isn't unexpected at a show like this - $100 tickets, movie industry crowd, etc. There were definitely some hardcore Cult fans in attendence, mostly up against the stage. Ian asked what we thought about our new President, which got some cheers, but I think he was expecting more ("must be a Republican crowd"). He also asked if there were any First Nations in attendence, which there were a couple, and dedicated Spiritwalker to them. He talked a little about some of the films he'd seen at the festival, including a doc about the South American rain forests. Took him a few songs to get into it, but a solid performance.

Overall, great show - song highlights for me were: Electric Ocean, The Phoenix, The Witch, Rise, LRM. I got some great pics that I'll try and post later. Here's the setlist:

Lil Devil
Electric Ocean
Rain
Sweet Soul Sister
The Witch
Spiritwalker
Edie
Illuminated
Fire Woman
Rise
The Phoenix
Dirty Little Rockstar
Wildflower
LRM
Sanctuary"

Ian and Billy appeared on Indie 103.1's "Jonesy's Jukebox" 8/6, the interview along with new studio cut "I Assassin" can be heard here:

http://www.indie1031.fm/streaming/jonesy.asx

This isn't directly Cult-related but I thought I'd post it here since the few times I listened to Jonesy's Jukebox was when Falcon would post about it...and now it's gone with the wind.

http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/la-et-jonesy4-2009feb04,0,5091298.story

It says he might tour with Iggy Pop, that would be cool to see.

Jonesy's Jukebox was (IMO) the best show on radio - Ian and Billy made many appearances
over the five years of its existense, it will be missed.

Back to The Cult..

For those interested, the forum on the "official site" is on hiatus for a bit with the band considering the "Born Into This" era over.

New music is in the works, not sure in what capacity or any scheduled release date.

Don't look for any extended tours anytime soon, future tours will be truncated with a few dates here and there in concentrated areas.

Sundance Review From Paste Mag

Thanks to ResurrectionJames and www.cultcentral.com for the following:

The Cult

Sometimes you spend years waiting for something, then you turn around and see that it's popped up out of nowhere, right in front of you. Of all the bands I regretted having never seen, The Cult was very near the top of the list. For one thing, no one else sounds like them: that crazy blend of rock, metal and goth. They also play music that always seemed to me to be perfectly suited to a live venue, and especially to the sense of Dionysian craziness that can grip a rock crowd in those magical, inspired moments.

So when I rounded a corner only to come face to face with The Cult doing a soundcheck, my knees actually buckled. Ian Astbury was singing 20 feet away from me, and I was one of a dozen people in the room. I sat mesmerized and watched, feeling like a kid again. It was like being turned loose in Disneyland after hours.

The show was a wonder as well. The drums still thundered, the guitars still screamed and strutted, and the vocals still wailed. Well, kind of wailed. Astbury's crazy-brilliant voice isn't all it once was. But Billy Duffy's guitar just blew the top off the place. I think he's better now than he was then, and his eerie-yet-rocking riffs and powerful solos were a thing of beauty on this night. It really was like being 18 again.

CHRIS WYSE's OWL To Guest On WHRL 103.1 FM's 'Big Break Show' - Feb. 14, 2009

OWL, the band fronted by THE CULT bassist Chris Wyse, will be interviewed on the "Big Break Show" with host Jason Keller on the Albany, New York radio station WHRL 103.1 FM on Sunday, February 15 at 8:00 p.m. EST.

To listen to the show live via the Internet, visit www.whrl.com.

OWL l released its self-titled debut on February 10 via Overit Records. The group is described as "one of the best-kept secrets on the L.A. club scene," a band featuring three electric musicians who have joined together to create something that is more than the sum of its individual parts ? a collaboration between Wyse, his longtime pal, drummer Dan Dinsmore, and guitarist Jason Achilles.

Wyse is well known for his skills on bass (especially the stand-up bass) and vocals. Besides OWL and THE CULT, he has played with Ozzy Osbourne, Jerry Cantrell and Bob Rock, just to name a few. He even auditioned for METALLICA, but the post went to Robert Trujillo. Wyse also plays in CARDBOARD VAMPYRES with Cantrell and THE CULT guitarist Billy Duffy, and subs for his buddy Chris Chaney (JANE'S ADDICTION) in CAMP FREDDY, a JANE'S ADDICTION/VELVET REVOLVER side project.

For more information, visit the OWL MySpace page.
