A bit of good Cult news from Billy, he and Ian have casually started the writing process for the next record in California..

Also, The Cult will be hitting the road the second half of this year - Austrailia, New Zealand and South America
for now with the possibility of some North American dates as well.

More info to follow..

More great stuff from www.billyduffy.com

Ian, Billy and Nigel Preston (died 1992) in Germany in 1984.

"This photo was on a break from recording ?Go West? for a German TV show called Music Convoy. At the time we didn?t have a record deal in Europe and Ian stuck a sign to the back of my guitar saying ?SIGN US UP?. It was also just before we recorded Resurrection Joe in Germany.?

The only Cult track "featuring" a guest musician.

From 1994, Johnny Marr guesting on the track "North" from their eponymous albumof 1994:

It looks as though Ian, Slash and Steve Jones met Debbie Rowe before Michael Jackson did. Grin Wink

This is pretty cool, BD just crushing "Rebel Yell" with Billy Idol last night.

"Message from Billy?. "I had a great time last night when I took part in the Rock against MS Gig here in LA. I played a couple of songs with my old pal Billy Idol and as well as having loads of fun it was great to support such a worthy cause. x Billy"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PIU7lA1tqHs

Litle known factoid, BD and Idol nearly formed a band in the mid 90's after The Cult had split - demos were done etc.

They ended up deciding against it, citing working together was "too obvious"..

More from BD and www.billyduffy.com

Posted March 29th, 2013

"Obviously with my commitments to recording and touring with The Cult it?s not often that I get chance to play other gigs. This week was the exception as I was asked to appear as a special secret guest alongside Billy Idol at a Rock Against MS charity event at Whiskey a Go Go in LA. We played a couple of Billy?s songs, White Wedding ad Rebel Yell, and it was great to be part of this and to support such a worthy cause.

Playing the show with Billy reminded me of the gig last year when I was lucky enough to be invited to play at the Marshall 50 Years of Loud gig in London with Cory Taylor of Slipknot. So it seemed a good idea to tell my story of the event and I got in touch with my pal Chris George who was musical director on the night and he?s kindly provided us with the master mix from my part of the show to share with you on billyduffy.com. Click here to listen to the two tracks ?Lil? Devil? and ?Love Removal Machine? and read Jamming with Corey at 50 Years of Loud

Whilst on the subject of jamming with friends, if you haven?t checked it out already on here there?s also the tale of my 2,000 mile motorcycle road trip up the West Coast with my three good friends; Steve Jones, Billy Morrison and Frankie Perez. We stopped of at various Ducati dealerships and played intimate acoustic gigs as part of the Ducati All Stars.

If you?d like the chance to win a Ducati Motorcycle Jacket that I will personally sign for you head over to my Facebook page via the link below and answer a simple question.

Finally don?t forget to keep checking the official www.thecult.us site, as well as here on billyduffy.com as something big n fun is coming in the summer!?

X
 Billy"

Another great story from Billy's website chronicling his participation in "Marshall's 50 Years Of Loud" event complete with soundboard audio of Corey Taylor just killing The Cult's "Lil Devil" and "Love Removal Machine".

Holy mother of God, this finally happened.

From Johnny Marr's twitter:

"Thanks to Billy Duffy for coming out to blast The Filmore in San Francisco with me tonight. Ww-eee-ooo-rRR"

This is pretty much the British alt "jump up" equivalent to Kurt Cobain arising from the dead to do a song with Jerry Cantrell.

Don't fail me know YouTube.

EDIT - Thanks to funky for the following:

Johnny starts telling a story of growing up in Manchester and at age 13 meeting some really amazing kids. And one kid, in particular, is in a band and had made it. The others, yeah not so much. This kid turned out to be Billy Duffy, guitarist of the Cult. These long-time friends had never played a stage together before tonight. And, honestly, they need to do it more often as this was melt your face off unf?ingbelievable.

The two of them (both guitar gods as far as Im concerned) performed one hell of a version of the Clash?s ?I Fought the Law?. It was powerful and full of raw energy. Johnny let Billy take the spotlight and on his white guitar he tore it up. The two of them continued into a really rocked out version of ?How Soon is Now?. The song has never sounded so amplified with so many guitars filling up the room. It was awesome and one hell of a way to close out the set.

And a message from BD:

"Anyone who has read the 'Billy and Johnny' interview on my site will know itsays that despite being pals since school days and playing on a couple of records together we'd never played live on stage. Well I thought you'd like to know that finally changed last night at the Fillmore in San Francisco. Johnny invited me to join him on stage at his gig for a couple of songs. We played The Clash version of 'I fought the Law' and The Smiths 'How soon is
now'. It's been a long time coming but I had a fantastic time" Billy x
