The Cult is scheduled to perform February 24 at California Speedway, in Fontana, California. The concert, which begins at 8:00pm, is a part of Nascar's highly successful Rock n Racing series. Tickets include admission to the racetrack to view the race and The Cult's post race performance.

This is somewhat Cult-related, more about Circus Diablo, but still worth checking out.
Billy Morrison's weblogs:
http://www.youtube.com/morrisontv
He has a semi autobiography thing going in 'A Life Less Ordinary' and also talks about Camp Freddy, and his new band Circus Diablo.

ROADRUNNER RECORDS announces the signing of multi-platinum alternative rock band The Cult, the influential UK group who have built an extensive global fan base with hits such as ?She Sells Sanctuary,? ?Rain,? ?Wild Flower,? ?Love Removal Machine,? ?Edie,? ?The Witch? and ?Rise.? A new studio album, the first since 2001, is currently being recorded in London with producer Youth (Verve, Primal Scream), who will be adding final touches and mixing. The expected release date for the yet untitled album is September 25, 2007 and will be released in conjunction with The Cult?s imprint label, NEW WILDERNESS.
The Cult, led by founding members vocalist Ian Astbury and guitarist Billy Duffy, will embark on a series of European arena shows with rock legends The Who starting June 5th. The band will be adding headline dates and festival appearances along the route, building on the overwhelming reaction to their 2006 sell-out world tour. A U.S. headline tour will follow in the fall.
?We have always dreamed of finding a label that allows us artistic freedom and has the muscle to get the music to the people,? comments Astbury. ?At the heart of this recording is an urban directness of savage rawness and an earnestness that is the center of any great rock and roll band.?
?What?s especially great about The Cult,? A&R men Derek Oliver and Dante Bonutto state, ?is their instinctive ability to live in the present, not just reflecting current taste but actually helping to shape it ? something you can hear in Ian?s contributions to the UNKLE project. They have a magnificent and hugely influential history, but when you bring the classic and the contemporary crashing together in the way that Ian and Billy can, it gives real potential for this new album to be their most exciting ever.?

well, to me ians voice is one of the things which set the cult out, and if you watch performances with him whilst hes got more weight on, he gets out of breath so much, and doesnt do all the awesome moves like he used to.
i guess billy can save it though, such a great player.

This should put your mind to rest, here's a clip from Nov, 13 of last year at Irving Plaza in New York City.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ip1kkqoj6Zw
Ian's fit as a fiddle and sounding strong and Billy is bringing it like only he can.
Enjoy.

Not sure what you thought you may have see in the '06 footage, I saw them multiple times and he looked just as he did in the footage above.
Same for Reading in '01, looks in fine form here:

Maybe you're thinking back to Sonic Temple era Ian, he definitely put on a few on that tour.

When I saw them in San Diego, March 06, he had a bad back but was in good shape and sounded better than I have ever heard them. If its the same line up (Dimkitch on guitar, Tempesta on drums, forgot the bassist) the new album should be really good.

Chris Wyse is on bass as he was in '06.
I've seen The Cult in all it's forms since the "Electric" tour, and this is without a doubt the heaviest lineup to date.

BORN INTO THIS - 6.4.2007
As reported last week, Roadrunner has signed The Cult, and we can now announce that the multi-platinum band's forthcoming CD - their first new studio album since 2001 - will be titled Born Into This.
Born Into This is currently being recorded in London with producer Youth (Verve, Primal Scream), and will be released in conjunction with The Cult's imprint label, New Wilderness, this September.
In the meantime, The Cult, led by founding members vocalist Ian Astbury and guitarist Billy Duffy, will embark on a series of European arena shows with rock legends The Who starting June 5th. The band will be adding headline dates and festival appearances along the route, building on the overwhelming reaction to their 2006 sell-out world tour. A U.S. headline tour will follow in the fall.
Stay tuned for much more The Cult news in the next weeks and months...

I dig UNKLE - never knew Ian was part of it!
cant wait to see them again. The last and first time I saw them was at the Henry Fonda theatre so I got to see 'em up close. I hope it stays that way
EDIT:
Just found a video of the UNKLE song featuring Astbury:

How the fuck can anyone in their right mind call The Cult fuckin' "alternative"
like in Axl's rant what is alternative? bullshit. The Cult have been kickin' ass almost a decade before the word "alternative " was introduced as the "shit"
Yeah.... Electric and Sonic Temple sound really alternative to me. It's straight up Rock n' roll like AC-DC with more groove reminding me of some of Zeppplins stuff.
I wish these media Turds would get their heads out of their asses...fuck sakes

It stems from the scene they emerged from in England, very much against the grain of what was going on there at the time.
Ian and Billy refer to themselves as an "outsider" band which has worked to their favor over the years, allowing them to move freely within different genres without ever being pidgeonholed into one particular sect.
