A Scanner Darkly the book is heavy going, i managed to get about one 5th of the way through before becoming lost. Time to re start another time. The story is about substance 'D' [D for Death  ]

Hey, I was actually going to look for this thread, and here it is on the main page! I decided to read "A Scanner Darkly" on the advice of Uncle Axl when that Rolling Stone interview came out. I had always meant to read something by Philip K. Dick, I was in between books at the time and the movie is forthcoming, so the timing was perfect. And I have to say, I really enjoyed the hell out of that book. It wasn't what I expected, but it was definitely worth reading and I am intrigued to see how they handle certain things in the movie version.

The lead character in the movie will evidently be played by Keanu Reeves. I agree with Axl that this is a poor choice, but hopefully he does a good job. I am thinking Edward Norton would be good in that role. However, the rest of the cast looks pretty good. The director is Richard Linklater (Dazed and Confused, School of Rock) and the book's most interesting character Barris is played by Robert Downey Jr. (Perfect choice!) Woody Harrelson and Winona Ryder also play key roles.
