Dizzy & Pitman's role in GNR

One word: Keyboards.
Seriously, what in the world was Axl thinking, getting keyboard players into Guns?
Was he trying to achieve a certain sound...or what?
I mean, come on. Wasn't Guns supposed to be a fucking rock band?
I just don't see how keyboards fit into a rock band.
Help me out here.

... I'm not sure...... I remember an interview with Slash were he said exactly the same.... but he said that after he heard Dizzy he went like "Oh... that sounds good"..................
... IMO, it gave a characteristic sound....... and only the songs that needed the keyboards had them....... we'll never know how UYI I&II would have sound without them..........

Here we go again. If you want to see how they fit into a rock band, just listen to "a supposed fucking rock bands" like Led Zeppelin, queen, rolling stones or such.
I think They have different roles. Chris is more a synthesizer, putting effects.
And both write music. The more, the more ideas.

ppl, just listen to the tracks like Zeppelin's Trampled Under Foot, The Rain Song, Kashmir, Stairway To Heaven.....Queen's - Bohemian Rhapsody...well...imagine these tracks without the "keybord parts" into them....i can't. really
its the same with November Rain, Estranged....just fkin great rock n roll songs WITH keybords into them!

Keyboards and pianos definitely have a place in rock music. Chris Pitman helped write Silkworms, so he has no place in GN'R.

Dizzy's role in Civil War is sweet, even though you can hardly hear it.

I agree, Sam. The piano in that song is very cool. It sounds great at the end as Slash is soloing and Axl is flipping out. There are so many songs on UYI that the piano adds so much to.

Also, Bad Obsession. Right before the chorus, Dizzy lets loose.
