Apparently cinnnamon helps. Get some cinnamon gum or candies.
I say apparently because I have no intention of quitting smoking. So it's not a firsthand thing.

I learnt i was 6 weeks pregnant and 3 days later, i was a non smoker.
I had been smoking 20 years.( yes, if you count, i DID start at age 10)
Amazing what the proper motivation can do for you, isn't it? My uncle was told he had lung cancer and never smoked again. Up until then he claimed he couldn't quit no matter how hard he tried.
I'm a strong believer in will power - decide not to do it, and then just don't. If its hard, suffer for awhile. But if you want techniques to quit - I have a friend who did hypnosis tapes, and it worked. I guess it didn't work perfectly because she gained about 30 pounds the year she quit.

yup..i put on loads of weight for my pregnancy because i quit smoking and double ate ( put on 18 kilos altogether) but baby is now 6 weeks old and i have lost 14 kilos out of the 18 taken.
I did suffer, emotionally, because tobbacco is a vicious son of the Bxxxx, and i still would love to sit home, tired, with a coffee and a ciggie, but won't do it.
It's still hard but i am proud of me and i want to stay proud of doing something good like this...

This has been a really helpfl thread I came across.
Trying to get past vices in my life that have been harmfull in my life.....
DRUGS, for some reason were the easy thing, havent done any in about a yr, and have no desires for.
alchol , we there I stand by by good wine and drink, have no ntentions of indulging with that here and there.
BUt Ciggs, I remember when I was 16 yrs old and said to my parents, I can stop anytime I want.lol well for other things I could, but ciggs, just havent stopped.
But I resist more and more, at my worst times , like being on the internet is where I found I smoked the most. So dady by day , it gets easier. Shit I want a smoke.lol.

Is there any ex smokers here? How did you quit? I have been smoking for 16 years, and I am going to make another attempt at quitting. Its not easy. Giving up weed, meth, alcohol, etc. was a cakewalk compared to giving up cigarettes. A couple years ago, I quit for about 2 months, but I smoked weed constantly and it took the edge off. Now cigarettes is my only addiction. Any ideas?
All the weird shit will not work unless you actually want to give up
One good way to do it is to take two weeks off work, get totally drunk and smoke loads on the first night - make yourself really ill. Then the next day when you have a killer hangover, light a cigarette when you are feeling nauseous and let it make your feel/be sick.? After this stay in bed for the emainder of the two weeks. Play computer games etc.. but ensure you lock yourself away from everything and anything. Then after two weeks, do some extreme exercise. Go for a run everyday, make yourself feel ill by exercising too much. When you feel ill, blame the cigarettes, as they are to blame anyway. This entire process will lay an anchor in your mind about the evil of cigarette smoking. Continue this process for a couple of months. Keep exercising and avoid going out with people who smoke for a while. Cut them out of your life. Anytime you feel sick, make sure you light a cigarette and smell it.
After 6 months you will have given up cigs and it'll be hard for you to return to them

How bout' just not smoking? I sound like a dick but just fn' stop. It sucks, its not a fun experience but just go cold turkey. You'll be miserable for about 2 weeks but the cravings will eventually pass.

Sleep.
You can't smoke while you're sleeping, you can't do drugs, no bad things happen when you're sleeping
(at least nothing that you're aware of), so... all good!

Thanks for all the tips.
I have about half a pack left, and after I finish those tonight I am quitting.
Maybe you should quit now, not after the pack.

It really boils down to a choice and your conviction...if you're not totally sold on the decision in your head, you will most likely falter. When I quit it was real important to find another habit \routine(ie something non health threatening-exercise, learning guitar, going for a walk)
because there are going to be those moments (ie after dinner ciggie, AM ciggie with coffee) where you body is going to be screaming for a ciggie...change your routine, and don't beat yourself up if your falter on the journey...

Keep yourself occupied, very busy so you don't have time, even if it means doing pointless things like resurrecting a thread from January for no apparant reason...

There is a reason: I need to quit smoking.
Thanx for the advice

Sorry my mistake, i found the best way was avoiding all my friends who smoked for a fair bit and not going out drunking, it sucked but it worked...
....take up a hobby or something that smoking would intefere with like something really sporty, i can't smoke now because it would affect my martial arts training.

Same thing that works in losing weight;
"Just don't buy so much food fattie! Christ!"
(so just don't buy smokes)
I've tried to quit every now and then, it was easier when I hadn't smoked for so long. Then I had no problems to have a pause for a month or two. Or to decide to lay down smoking and only smoke on the weekends.
Then I got a stressfull job, so it was easy to quit smoking, until I had a shitty day and needed to coold down my nerves.
But anyway for me it's more than a habit, like it comes naturally to reach for a smoke if having a talk to a friend etc. I don't get that bad withdrawals if I don't smoke for a day etc.
