Sort of playing 'comeback manager' in the dj thread, I thought i'd start one about possible tv shows you'd advise Axl to go on to promote any possible comeback

I say 60 Minutes would be a good choice:

1) Primetime slot, noncable= larger audience

2) general perception of doing fair interviews

3) Has turned into a decent promotional vehicle in last few years (Stern just did it for his Sirius move)

I'd say do something on MtV or Vh1 but i fear both of those channels are past the point of musical relevancy-though maybe MtV would make an exception for Axl because gnr was one of their big video stars. Comments, other ideas?

i think jimmy kimmell would be cool.

also, maybe a prime time show like 60 minutes, i agree.....but i'd kinda rather see a really in depth interview with kurt loder? on mtv......he seems to have a good relationship with Axl.

If you want my Grandparents to buy Chinese Democracy, sure put him on 60 minutes, but Ill probably miss it because I dont watch that shit..

Just put him on VH1 or Letterman, I really dont care anymore.

An interview is going to be an interview..

At least speaking for here in the States:

I'd say he should do Charlie Rose. It would be the perfect venue and schematic. No frills, no pandering, no major network involvement. And it's Public Television.

Not Larry King.
Not 60 Minutes (and only have 15-20 minutes devoted? Nah, we want a whole hour!)
Nothing on the NBC's or Fox (to political oriented on both sides-this is music).
And I can't see him doing the late night circuit. Although Axl doing a Letterman Top 10 would be priceless.

And I second what ppbebe said-have some other members on. Maybe the first 1/2 hour solo, then the second as a group.

Chinese Democracy Is Coming Some Day!!!

« Reply #5 on: January 10, 2006, 05:19:03 PM »

If Axl would choose to be on any kind of talk show no matter what he will be asked several times, where have you been, whats taking so long, and etc. To be honest I dont think Axl wants anyone to know. Axl would have to be prepared to be ridiculed by some.

I would love for Axl to do 60 minutes, Millions of people watch the show. Not all being grandma and grandpas but most being mom's and dad's. (GNR Baby Boomers)

Once we finally know when CD is coming then I want Axl to be a promotional machine. Get on everything, Best Damn Sports Show, Letterman, Leno, Access Hollywood, MTV, VH1, ESPN, everything. He is going to have to get back into the spotlight and let people know he is still making kick ass music, and is one cool mother fucker.

all though i would love see something like that........I think that being the recluse that he is and his often avoidance of the media i think we would have a better chance of fitting a whale up our arse. IMO smoking

I would give my left nut for Axl to be on 60 Minutes. But the Daily Show or Colbert Report may be more realistic.

If Axl cared about promotion and record sales he would have released the album years ago and certainly wouldn't have become a recluse. His motive is to make a great album and the record company certainly certainly cant pressure him to promote the album - they'll just be happy to have a release date. There is no chance of him becoming a promotional machine. I'm guessing a couple of interviews in magazines and that's it.
