Can I have the rest of your life tacked on to mine, in exchange for my turbo graphix 16?

No. But I'll reconsider if u happen to have a Marshall JCM half stack and a Gibson Les Paul Standard. That's not much is it?  Grin

Would you rather:

A: Live a long life, say another 60 years, of ups and downs...

or

B: Live for one more year of total bliss...

This question is all based on what one desires out of life - not philosophy, at least not based off the answers thus far.  I mean if one was a die hard hedonist then they would have to opt for the utility gained from one year fo bliss and excess.  Even if one was a utilitarian there might be some weight to opting for a year of bliss in the total sum units of utility outweighed the total sum units of pain and suffering that the world would experience.

Is the year of bliss going to be higher pleasures (mental) or lower pleasures (physical)?  If you're going to get philosophical, let's go balls out.  Personally I believe the meaning of life to have as many positive influences on others as possible and experience as much as you can, but that's just me.  i don't see how someone can believe to have a morally satisfying life if their sole goal is pleasure and self indulgence.

So the question at hand is really does one want to lead a normal life (ups and downs) or live a life of excess and pleasure?  I argue that opting for 1 year of bliss is very selfish and morally/spiritually unfullfilling.  However, if one were to obtain their bliss through good deeds and bettering the world, then that would surely be a selfless act and morally right just so long as they were doing said actions because they were right and not to gain the pleasure of those actions - have I lost anyone?  Alot could be said and debated on this topic.
