Al Mancini of ABC Radio's ePrep is reporting that VELVET REVOLVER have set "Libertad" ? the Spanish word for freedom ? as the working title for their new CD.

Speaking to ABC Radio's ePrep entertainment reporter on the red carpet at the Radio Music Awards at the Aladdin Resort and Casino in Las Vegas on Monday (Dec. 19), VELVET REVOLVER singer Scott Weiland explained "the title that I'm sort of kicking around is ? 'Libertad'," before adding "that can mean a lot of things."

Confirming recent statements by other members of his band, Weiland explained that he wants the band's second CD to be a concept record.

"The great rock and roll records were albums," he told ABC Radio's ePrep. "It wasn't about ten to twelve songs just thrown together so it can support three singles, which is sort of what records are about today."

The singer said that he's hoping to emulate "the great records of yesteryear" like THE ROLLING STONES' "Exile On Main Street" and PINK FLOYD's "Dark Side of the Moon".

"This band and the bands that we come from, we've had a lot of hits, and we can prove that we can write hits," Weiland explained. "So on this album, I've set the bar really high. I have an idea in mind."

I'm really looking forward to this, I hope they get really creative with it, and from the way Scott is sounding, it looks as though it will be, especially with the comparisons he made.

It almost seems as though they're going for something epic, which to me is what Axl is doing with GN'R.

And I thought VR were just a "rock" band...
I wonder what the rest of the guys think about this?

yeah, I agree that Velvet Revolver is not the best band name... As for Libertad I could care less one way or the other.... It just makes me think more that this is going to be a poliyically driven record though.. Which I really don't care to see.

I agree whole heartedly.  Regardless if you think the world is fucked right now, many people look as music (myself included) as an escape from that.  If I want politically driven material I'll goto qualified sources.

Would you believe that some friends of mine didn't want to go see VR in concert because they thought the band name was gay? Its very silly, but people do actually judge bands because of these things.

I couldn't get any of my friends to go with me either, not cause of their name but because they were touring with Hoobastank.

Don't really give a shit about the album name Libertad.  I remember some people were upset about the name Contraband and two and a half years later it doesn't make one bit of difference what that album was called.

From what I've read on the board here, it seems the general consensus no matter if you are an Axl fan, Slash fan, or Chris "Denny's" Pittman fan; everybody wants more of Slash's guitar sound in Velvet Revolver so that's the main thing I'm hoping for.

I disagree. There's enough bands that write about boobs and ass, or how much their lives suck, it's great to have a band write something thought provoking and thoughtful. This could be a great album.

Apart from Springsteen and Green Day, there hasn't been a protest song in years. Maybe VR will deliver the next "Fortunate Son."
