All i can say is WOW!!! Holy shit, I have just been reminded of how Kick Ass GnR actually was back in the day.

Just listened to UYI1 and UYI2 back to back for the first time in years to take part in this thread and i was shocked that on the first pass that I only eliminated 6 tracks of 30. Again Wow.

So then i took a different approach to this I went with all the singles and Video songs as definate yesses. and then filled in the remaining bits with some of my favorite non-single tunes. And as i have always hated LALD i decided to remove it (well hated is a bit strong but I have always been least fond of that track, of all their singles)

This is my final wishful 1 album long UYI

01. Civil War
02. Dead Horse
03. Yesterdays
04. Knockin' On Heaven's Door
05. Breakdown
06. Perfect Crime
07. Pretty Tied Up
08. November Rain
09. The Garden
10. Garden of Eden
11. Don't Damn Me
12. Estranged
13. You Could Be Mine
14. Dont' Cry (orig)
15. My World

For a total Time of 78:44

(I admit I fucking hated My World when UYI's were first released but now whenever I hear it I find myself having it stuck in my head, and I'm loving it, so I take it as ahead of it's time and actually decent...so it stays as the closer)

I changed the track listing, this one flows better ok

Think about it, they could realesed a kick ass B-Sides album in '93 then followed up with TSI in '94 and maybe would've been too busy to fight and then maybe we coulda had and new album back in '95 or '96  drool (ahh well, wishful thinking Cry )

Did it remind anyone else a little bit of a "meatloaf" song?

I've thought the same thing before. Keep in mind, I love GNR, I don't like Meatloaf, and I think "Breakdown" is a great song.

Weird...

some of the most honest lyrics you're ever likely to hear. reminds me why i have faith in axl.

Seems destined to be one of those songs that's a fan favorite, but never big outside of the fan base.

'Breakdown' - was another plaintive mini-epic, which took a different route down the familiar path of abandonment. ?"Just like the children hidin' in a closet can't tell what's goin' on outside" was a telltale line in a familiar Axl vein. ?He was the sole writer for both 'Estranged' and 'Breakdown' and is no surprise given their sensitive nature.

Axl speaks with sadness, "To think the one you love could hurt you now is a little hard to believe." ?Again given the tangents throughout the song it is difficult to to know who he refers to, whether it is a romantic partner or a family member. ?However it is obvious at the time Axl believed no one neither truly understood him, or cared enough to try.

He sings as if mentally wounded, "When I look around everybody always brings me down. ?Well is it them or me I just can't see... but if someone really cared well they'd take the time to spare, a moment to try and understand another one's dispair. ?Remember in this game that we call life that no one said it's fair."

There is also a reference to life as it was before the bands success. ?Axl sings, "Funny how everything was Roses when we held on to the Guns. ?Just because your winnin' don't mean you're the lucky ones", in effect mocking their achievements and winking ironcally at their togetherness as paupers, their separation as rich rock stars. ?Separation was a theme evident throughout Axl's lyrics but there was also an abundance of themes linked to the desire to change.

''''Cause yesterday's got nothin for me
? Old pictures that I'll always see
? Some things could be better
? In my book of memories ? ?

Quoted from a GNR book.
