I think that if they put hust the best songs, they could have time to work in the other songs (I agree that all UYI songs are great) and make them, a classic too. In IYU there's a lot of songs with amazing potential that could be realy better (Pefect Crime, Locomotive, Shotgun Blues, Breakdown (I love this one), Dust N' Bones...). So, this would be my tracklist:

01. You Could be Mine
02. Civil War
03. Pretty Tied Up
04. Don't Cry
05. The Garden
06. Dead Horse
07. Don't Damm Me
08. November Rain
09. Estranged
10. Perfect Crime ('cause if they've worked in less songs at that time, this song would be a TOP 5 all time in GN'R songs)

The covers would be on TSI.

Perfect Crime is perfect. Don't mess with it.

Hey guy, I love Perfect Crime too, but I think this song got a potential to be a single if they worked a little bit more on it.
 beer

I'm just curious, because I think Perfect Crime is great as it is, what do you think could be improved in the song?

Man, what I mean is, even Bohemian Rhapsody got potencial to be better, all songs can be better. And, in my opinion, Perfect Crime could be really better even being an amazing song. For example, look at the new songs. They were great songs, but, working more on this songs they became better then in the past.

Ps.: Don't forget it's just my opinion, I don't "own the truth".

I'm glad to have found a GNR message board where I can throw this out.  I think one of the most disappointing events in the last 20 years of Rock and Roll is that Use Your Illusion could have easily been one of the greatest albums in history.  As it is, the material that would have been used to make such an album gets bogged down in an indecipherable mess of adolescent whining or self-indulgent (and sometimes borderline delusional) fits of rage.  The "why" here (i.e. Axl Rose's ego) can be discussed and debated endlessly, but I've always preferred to focus on the tangible content.

If you were to construct a one-disc album of the 10 or 11 best songs from the two albums (assuming the left-overs could be released on a follow up b-sides disc, or whatever) which would you choose and in what order?  I like:

1) You Could Be Mine
2) Don't Cry
3) Civil War
4) Don't Damn Me
5) November Rain
6) Garden of Eden
7) Locomotive
8) You Ain't the First
9) Estranged
10) Yesterdays
11) Breakdown

Obviously no two lists will be the same but I'd like to know what others think.  I would challenge anyone, however, to construct a playlist of the above and tell me that it isn't one of the best albums ever.  What say you?

Also, sorry if I'm "beating a dead horse" here but I didn't see a similar thread in my search of the boards.

Your search would have led to the "Dead Horse" section.

As for the list, i dunno. It was released the way it was, i can accept it

1. Dust N' Bones
2. Live and Let Die
3. Dont Cry (original)
4. Dont Damn Me
5. Double Talkin Jive
6. November Rain
7. Dead Horse
8. Coma

9.   Civil War
10. 14 Years
11. Breakdown

The Illusions are perfect as a double album.  The only song I dont much care for is My World.  The rest is brilliant material.

I'll try to go with 10 or 11 for a single disc, but it'll probably be more like 15.

1)Right Next Door to Hell
2)Civil War
3)Perfect Crime
4)Breakdown
5)Back off Bitch
6)Pretty Tied Up (The Perils of Rock & Roll Decadence)
7)Double Talkin' Jive
8.)Locomotive
9)Dead Horse
10)So Fine
11)Estranged
12)You Could Be Mine
13)Dont Cry (alt)
14)Coma

Its a bitch to have to leave November Rain off that list...but I cant take any of the other songs off if it either!!

Try the dead horse section.....

Listen to all the songs u claim are rubbish and u will realise they ain't.

Some songs take time. I been listening to UYI 1 and 2 for 10 years and only this year has Coma 'clicked' with me.

Put the volume on max, listen to the lyrics and try and understand the point being made. U will be amazed how songs grew on you. I never liked Locomotive, but now i can't stop listening to it.

also, this goes for all the critics of the UYI albums. Look at everyone's lists of songs. Each person likes different songs, how many great songs would be lost if the album was just 12 songs?

My fav song of all time is 14 years. That would have gone bye bye

I don't know how people can criticise a band for giving them too much....... Roll Eyes

That is so true. I've been listening to illusions for 10 years too and in the last 2 or 3 I could have made a compilation CD of songs I like from them easily, except for one thing - It doesn't work.

Why doesn't it work I hear you ask? Because my ideal tracklisting would change every week, if not every day. Every song is good, and they all demand listening to. There's no song I could say "I'll never be in the mood to hear that again".

Use Your Illusion I and II are brilliant as they are, and should be considered classics.

« Reply #73 on: April 06, 2004, 06:12:22 PM »

This maybe been mentioned earlier in this thread. But there is a album called Use Your Illusion (1998) which contains these tracks:

Live And Let Die
Don't Cry (Original)
You Ain't The First
November Rain
The Garden
Dead Horse
Civil War
14 Years
Yesterdays
Knockin' On Heaven's Door
Estranged
Don't Cry (Alt Lyrics)

My tracklist for today (It'll probably look different tomorrow) from UYI 1 & UYI 2 would've been:

November Rain
Estranged
Coma
Don't Cry
You Could Be Mine
Locomotive
Civil War
Yesterdays
Knockin' On Heaven's Door
Dead Horse
So Fine
Get In The Ring
