I read this article on MTV, maybe someone can get a list of them from the Grammy website and then we can say who we think should take what.

Mariah Carey, Kanye West and John Legend lead the list of nominees for the 48th annual Grammy Awards with eight nods each. Carey's multi-platinum comeback album, The Emancipation of Mimi, helped her score nominations for the most coveted trophies: Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Record of the Year.

Mariah is also up for Best Contemporary R&B Album, Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance (for "Mine Again"), Best Female Pop Vocal Performance ("It's Like That"), Best R&B Song and Best Female R&B Vocal Performance (both for "We Belong Together").

"I was out late last night at the Grammy Honors [dinner], so it was a little difficult having to wake up at 5 a.m. and be all chippy. But if you're going to get up that early, then this is the reason to do it," Carey told MTV News. "It's truly been an amazing morning, and I'm really blessed to be making the music I love. My year has already been validated, but all these nominations really are incredible."

Gwen Stefani's first studio effort sans No Doubt, Love, Angel, Music, Baby, stands in the way of Carey's Album of the Year win. Both women will vie for that prize at the February 8 ceremony, which will air live from Los Angeles' Staples Center Arena. But Mariah and Gwen face tough competition from three other Album of the Year hopefuls: Paul McCartney's Chaos and Creation in the Backyard (nominated on the 25th anniversary of former bandmate John Lennon's assassination), U2's How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb and Kanye West's Late Registration (see "Kanye's At It Again: 'If I Don't Win Album Of The Year I'm Gonna Have A Problem' ").

Stefani and Mariah will contend with Kelly Clarkson ("Since U Been Gone"), Sheryl Crow ("Good Is Good") and Bonnie Raitt ("I Will Not Be Broken") in the Best Female Pop Vocal Performance category.

West's "Gold Digger" is also up for Record of the Year, along with "Feel Good Inc." by the Gorillaz, "Hollaback Girl" by Stefani and "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" by Green Day. Like Carey, U2 scored a nod for Song of the Year (for "Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own"), along with Rascal Flatts' "Bless the Broken Road," Bruce Springsteen's "Devils & Dust" and John Legend's "Ordinary People."

Legend ? who presented the list of this year's nominees on Thursday morning (December Cool along with Carey, Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger, Patti LaBelle, Natasha Bedingfield and others ? is up for eight awards, including Best New Artist (nominated along with Ciara, Fall Out Boy, Keane and Sugarland), Best R&B Song (for "So High"), Best Traditional R&B Performance and Best R&B Album.

"I'm still trying to process all of this," Legend laughed. "I honestly didn't expect to get this many nominations! It's been a great year for me, and to have this happen is the icing on the cake. It shows all the hard work that a whole lot of people ? like Kanye ? have put in to help me get noticed. Getting eight nominations is an honor in itself, but of course, I want to win."

"It's pretty insane that a band that used to play Knights of Columbus [halls] in Arlington Heights, Illinois, is now up for a Grammy," said Pete Wentz of first-time nominees Fall Out Boy. "I woke up this morning to my phone ringing and someone saying, 'Congratulations! You guys are nominated for a Grammy!' But unfortunately, at 6 a.m. my brain hates everything except sleep, and I just kind of felt like throwing up. When I woke up again I was like, 'Wow, was that a joke?' I kept looking for Ashton Kutcher to pop in and go 'You've been Punk'd!' It's a complete shock."

50 Cent scored six nominations, among them a nod in the Best Rap Solo Performance category for "Disco Inferno." The Best Rap Solo running also includes Kanye West's "Gold Digger," Eminem's "Mockingbird," Common's "Testify," T.I.'s "U Don't Know Me" and Ludacris' "Number One Spot." 50 is also up for Best Rap Song (for "Candy Shop" and his contributions to the Game's "Hate It or Love It") as is Kanye (for "Diamonds From Sierra Leone").

The Black Eyed Peas, with six nominations of their own, are up for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group (for "Don't Phunk With My Heart") and Best Rap Song, while Gwen and Ciara are both in the running for Best Rap Song (Collaboration): Gwen for "Rich Girl" featuring Eve, and Ciara for "1, 2 Step" with Missy Elliott. Other nominees in that category include Common's "They Say" featuring West and Legend, Destiny's Child's "Soldier" featuring T.I. and Lil' Wayne, and Jay-Z's Linkin Park-imbued "Numb/ Encore."

Destiny's Child were also nominated for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group for "Cater 2 U." Beyonc?, who earned a total of six nods for work with Destiny's Child and on her own, was also nominated in that category for "So Amazing," as were Legend, Alicia Keys ("If This World Were Mine") and Stevie Wonder ("How Will I Know"). "Cater 2 U" is also up for Best R&B Song (along with Fantasia's "Free Yourself," Legend's "Get Lifted," Keys' "Unbreakable" and Mariah's "We Belong Together") while Destiny's Child's Destiny Fulfilled is in the running for Best Contemporary R&B Album. Beyonc?'s "Wishing on a Star" was nominated for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance (along with Amerie for "1 Thing," Fantasia for "Free Yourself," Alicia Keys for "Unbreakable" and Mariah Carey).

Legend, Fantasia, Keys and Stevie Wonder will all face off against Earth, Wind & Fire (nominated for their Illumination album) for Best R&B Album, while Amerie and her Touch faces stiff competition from Mariah, Destiny's Child, Mario (Turning Point) and Omarion (O) for Best Contemporary R&B Album.

Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group nominees include Eminem for "Encore," Common for "The Corner," the Game for "Hate It or Love It," the Ying Yang Twins for "Wait (The Whisper Song)" and the Black Eyed Peas. In the Best Rap Album category, it will be Common's Be facing off against 50's The Massacre, Eminem's Encore, West's Late Registration and The Cookbook by Missy Elliott. Missy is also in the running for Best Rap Song for "Lose Control."

Coldplay's "Speed of Sound" was nominated for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocal, alongside "Best of You" by the Foo Fighters, "Do You Want To" by Franz Ferdinand, "All These Things That I've Done" by the Killers and "Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own" by U2.

Fiona Apple's long-awaited Extraordinary Machine scored a nomination for Best Pop Vocal Album, along with Clarkson's Breakaway, Crow's Wildflower, McCartney's Chaos and Stefani's Love, Angel, Music, Baby. The Killers, the Black Eyed Peas, Maroon 5 and the White Stripes (for "My Doorbell") are among the nominees for Best Pop Performance By A Duo or Group with Vocal. The Stripes' Get Behind Me Satan is also up for Best Alternative Album along with the Arcade Fire's Funeral, Beck's Guero, Death Cab for Cutie's Plans and Franz Ferdinand's You Could Have It So Much Better.

Rob Thomas' "This Is How the Heart Breaks" scored a nomination for Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance; others nominated for the prize include Eric Clapton, Robert Plant, Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young.

Audioslave picked up a nomination for Best Hard Rock Performance for "Doesn't Remind Me" and will face off against Nine Inch Nails' "The Hand That Feeds," Robert Plant's "Tin Pan Valley," Queens of the Stone Age's "Little Sister" and System of a Down's "B.Y.O.B." Foo Fighters also racked up a nod for Best Rock Song for "Best of You," as did Weezer for "Beverly Hills," U2 for "City of Blinding Lights," Coldplay for "Speed of Sound" and Springsteen for "Devils & Dust." Coldplay's X&Y will square off with the Foo Fighters' In Your Honor, the Rolling Stones' Bigger Bang, U2's How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb and Neil Young's Prairie Wind for the Best Rock Album prize.

Ministry's "The Great Satan," Mudvayne's "Determined," Rammstein's "Mein Teil," Shadows Fall's "What Drives the Weak" and Slipknot's "Before I Forget" were nominated for Best Metal Performance.

who i want to win/who will prbbaly win

Record of the Year:  Feel Good Inc., Gorillaz featuring De La Soul (best song imo on that list-  this is a pretty week catagory this year / Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Green Day (this song was everywhere)

Album of the Year: Chaos and Creation in the Backyard, Paul McCartney (just cause he was in The ... damn what band was he in again-  oh nevermind- plus the old farts who vote might go for it)

Song of the Year:   Devils & Dust, Bruce Springsteen,  (another weak catagory i pulled this outta my ass)

New Artist:  Ciara ( i hope she wins cause this catagory is cursed- right hanson?)

Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal:  All These Things That I've Done, The Killers (great tune) /  Speed of Sound, Coldplay (they'll win cause i hate them so much-  you know how it goes)

Hard Rock Performance:  The Hand That Feeds, Nine Inch Nails (fuckya!) /  Tin Pan Valley, Robert Plant (another old dude, barely belongs in category- thats why it'll win)

Metal Performance:  Before I Forget, Slipknot. (great song- but i dont see the people in charge wanting these guys walking on stage- scare away the soccor moms) / Determined, Mudvayne  (they've had the most commercial rock radio succsess so this is my guess)

Rock Song:   Beverly Hills, Rivers Cuomo, (Weezer)   (another weak catagory- but this one i suppose is the best imo)  /  Speed of Sound, Coldplay (just another gut instinct)

Rock Album:   Prairie Wind, Neil Young.  ( i gotta root for the local boy on this one)  /  X&Y, Coldplay  (yea,  these guys represent rock music to these out of date farts who run this pony show)

i watch the grammys every year- mostly for the live performances and dont put much care into who wins (exept for when someone i like wins)         my biggest hope is that Kanye West does not win a damn thing. he threw a crybaby fit after not winning last year- and already he has said 'If I Don't Win Album Of The Year I'm Gonna Have A Problem'
-  what a dick-  i dont care how good his album his-  if he was a real artist he would'nt care about this sorta stuff-

Didn't U2 won a few grammy awards this year already?

Vertigo won best song, and now they've got nominations for rock album, song City of blinding lights and performance Sometimes you can't make it on your own...what the hell is going on? I don't mind U2, but this is ridiculous.

Oh and Coldplay will win as usual.

Kanye West is already runnin his mouth that if he dont win there are gonna be problems.

I have listened to his first two singles, Gold Digger and the one with Maroon 5's singer and this guy has got to be the most overrated fucking artist ever.

Seriously he is like Puff Daddy and Mase combined.

Truly horrible rapper.

What a joke.

"Metal" Performance

The Great Satan, Ministry - not metal
Determined, Mudvayne - not metal
Mein Teil, Rammstein - not metal
What Drives the Weak, Shadows Fall - metalcore, but passable
Before I Forget, Slipknot. - garbage

So there's a single band there that could be considered metal, and even then it's a hardcore/metal fusion and not pure metal at all. These awards shows are worthless.
