Just posted this in another thread but I thought it might be a cool topic to discuss.

What the hell has been up to since 2002? we haven't heard shit from him have we?

I think he may be working with Axl to complete the record, maybe re-doing Bucketheads parts?

A couple statements from richard recently are interesting to support this theory too

Quote from: Richard
Don't give up on us, we are making progress and things are starting to roll very quickly now.

There are still some last minute details that are being recorded.

Richard Fortus, the phenomenon

I hope he is fine.

I'm convinced that Robin and Richard re-recorded some Buckethead's parts, It would be logical and normal. he is not part of the band anymore. I feel it. Richard (who lives in NY) can do it through amplitube and then can send his parts to Axl (I suppose), Robin lives near Axl's home in LA. It's easy for him to go to the studio with Axl. Just a phone call. It could explains the delays. Once again, it's just a supposition...just my intuition, so take it easy.

There is no mention of GN'R on his site.

Actually if you go to Quest and then FAQ it says:

Quote from: Robin's web site
q: When will 'Chinese Democracy' be released?
a: this is not a source for that info.

and this link

http://www.robinfinck.com/quest/faq/gnr_fans.php

which says:

gnr fans:

to be clear, the request to refrain from emailing me about Guns n' Roses is not a diss to you or to the band or to anyone. i simply am not eager to instigate that conversation until an official release date for the album is made public. otherwise, i'd go a little nutzo tossing "i dunnos" and "can't quite says" in every direction. i trust you may understand. there will most certainly be a time to embrace this new ship. let's first allow it to launch from the pad in all it's glory. i look forward to such a time.

what is real, is that i am alive and inspired and look forward to sharing this new chapter with you. thank you for your support and for your enthusiasm along this long and winding off-road trek. each email to me personally is gratefully received.

see you-

As Report has it he's done some works for games and films. And he wrote for the ballet his wife choreographed.
the other report runs that he's also helping African kids in sufferings.

Robin seems to have more intrerests outside of music than the other members of the band. So where we see and hear Richard, Tommy and Dizzy Touring and releasing solo pojects...... Robin is going on photo trips out of the public eye......

I guess part of the delay is re-recording liek nesquick said. I mean really what is the rush? When it's done it's done ok

Robin fucking rules. I love his avant-garde style. It's genuine and brings something into the band.

It would be even better if we knew more about what it brings to the band.

His website should give some indication as to what he has been up to for the last couple of years

In 2003, he was doing some wierd cirque activity in Cali. He was playing guitar with some people who did acrobatics to rock music (or something to that effect).

Robin - Circque du Soleil & Movie/Video Game Scores
Tommy - Soul Asylum & Solo Project
Dizzy - Hookers 'n' Blow
Richard -? touring with Nena and Having Babies
Brain - Drum schools and side projects with Les Claypool and others
Pittman - He's in a band called Zaum in between his shifts at Denny's hihi

I'm using Amplitube now and I can understand how easy is to record good guitars for raw demos and stuff like that, but do you really think Richard would just record some stuff in that way to put in one of the most polished albuns on earth?

Clearly, these guys aren't sitting on their collective asses waiting for Axl, they're out their living and being productive in many other ways...if only some erstwhile people on messageboards could do the same, maybe there'd be less acrimony over this whole CD thing Tongue
