Fuck Strats.  This is a rock band, not a blues band or a country band, or a punk band.  Les Pauls are for rock, and this is a rock band.  All I ask for is for some more blues based rock.  I think this is where Les Pauls shine.  Look at Clapton in Creme, he played a Paul, not a strat.  When he picked up a strat, his balls shriveled up inside him.  Les Paul through a Marshall is so key to Slash's tone and I love it.  If he wants a mean sounding Strat, he just picks up his BC Rich anyway.

Its different this time. Back then, they were the "in" thing, the "flavor of the month",etc. People didn't really care if the album was great. There is always more pressure when doing a second album. There are much higher expectations with this next album, and believe me, their career will suffer if they dont come up with something better than Contraband. Have you ever heard of the sophomore jinx?

I see where you're going and agree to an extent...

However, expectations were high to begin with and they succeeded on all levels.  Equaling the success of "Contraband" will be more than enough to keep the band moving forward.

One thing a pray happens is  that the song from the Fantastic four soundtrack isn't on the new album.

Yeah, I see what you mean. It would mean they were desperate for material, and we would be getting Contraband Vol.2. crying

Claptons guitar was an SG in Cream.  I play an LP, but there is absolutley NOTHING wrong with a Strat in a hard rock band.  I know, this topic is better suited for "Nice Boys", but i couldn't help it.

Ya, a Strat through a juiced up Marshall was on that song.  I am a les Paul guy all the way.  I guess with Slash it wouldn't matter much because Amps and pick ups determine 90% of the sound.   I just prefer the sound of a Paul.  Just listen to Slash play Hey Joe at the UK awards.  Jimi used a Strat, that went through a Marshall, but when clapton played one it sounded weak.  Also CLAPTON PLAYED A LES PAUL IN CREME!!!!!!!!!!  AND GUESS WHAT, IF HE DID PLAY AN SG, IT IS JUST A LIGHTWEIGHT LES PAUL TO BEGIN WITH ANY WAY.  That is why the SG was created, as a lighter Les Paul and they cut away the top part to give it a cooler look and help in the weight dept.  The SG had very similar, if not the same, pickups as the les pauls.

Clapton also used an SG's. Strats and LP's in Cream among other guitars....... And I would have to say that SG's sound nothing like LP's....

Really?? When I hear AC/DC, it sure sounds like a gibson to me. Acutally, similar to a Les Paul, but Angus uses les gain then Slash, so maybe that is the difference.? Black Sabbath?? Doesn't sound like a Paul?? Sounds pretty dam close to me.? Alot of SG's came with tremelo bars and those things actaully take away from the tone of a guitar because they are not connected to the body.? Unless Slash is going to be playing SRV or lots of whammy, why should he use a strat??

Please advise, what would VR gain?? I wonder what Zakk Wylde would look like with a Bulls Eye Strat?? THat is what I thought.

For information on Creme Era Clapton, please view the following link.  It tells you of the guitars he used and sounds they created.

does the guitar he uses even mean anything? slash could use the Variax guitar if he wanted for me, as long as he uses a cool guitar live.... on album it doesnt mean jack shit what he uses..

slash used to do Walkock's before les pauls.... warlock are some cool guitars

the sound is all that matter... the music should speak, not the apperance/look of his guitars...

I've been playing guitar almost 20 years and I can tell you this.. 80% of a guitarist tone lies in the fingers, not the rig he uses.  Clapton got soft, it wasn't him switching to a Strat.  Slash would still have the "Slash" tone plugging a Hondo into a sears amp.

I dont know what their plans are. but certainly with Weiland and his past you can expect excellent works....  They are musicians beyond compare.

I'm hoping the new album will be like "12 Bar Blues" but with more guitar.
