^^^ D! That kicks ass!! Great stuff.
Take a day off, relax, stay hydrated, stretched, and relaxed, and get back to a nice easy run for your next couple runs. Good stuff.

How did the Sprint Tri go?
D did you check your pm? I figured tri-sports wouldn't be allowed in the running section...but, since the swimming portion was cancelled due to unsafe conditions, I'll go ahead!
I got 69th out of 327 overall. I was 2nd out of 37 first-timers. It was a very successful day. Overall time was 1:17:57. Distances were 1.5 mile run, 14 mile bike, 3.1 mile run.
On the 1st run I averaged a 7:10/mile pace, on the 14 mile bike I averaged 20.7 m.p.h., and on the last 3.1 mile run I averaged a 7:09/mile pace. It was a freaking blast, and I'm more psyched than ever about next year's Half-Ironman race!
The only thing that would have made my race "Better," would have been having a GNR themed racing shirt. A dude there had a Rolling Stones one...imagine being a fan of a band that has new merchandise!

There ya go dude! That is awesome!
Abs take time as well. Just get on a consistent ab program..... I struggle with that myself.
Isnt funny how a man can run 8 miles but yet hate doing one sit up....... LOL!
Just keep running and try to do some abs everday or every other day if possible and it takes time but eventually it will happen.

The guy I know who did an IronMan race and many more half irons and regular triathlons, has told me you shouldn't over-do ab training. The abs can become so taut, they can inhibit your diaphragmatic breathing on longer races. I take this further by not doing any ab training! I really should do a little bit.
Mr. Dick Purple, congrats on the newfound endurance. Being in shape feels so much better than the alternative.

Running requires not a lot of co-ordination, which is why I like it!
Running & catching a ball, or kicking a ball- problem!

Very cool D! That's a damn good pace. Keep up the good work.
Unfortunately, I've been binging on the Halloween candy! I went through 4 or 5 bags of the crap. Gummi Lifesavers, tootsie rolls, Baby Ruths, Butterfingers, Twizzlers, and my favorite...Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. (my wife helped on the Twizzlers and Tootsie rolls)
Surprise, surprise, after binging like this, I went out for a run on Saturday and injured my calf. Nothing serious, but enough to make me walk back home. I got what I deserved. It's just a strain, nothing serious...hopefully it doesn't do to me what a calf strain did to Andre Johnson of the Texans last year! I'll be substituting running with swimming and biking this week.
Also, since they screwed up at the sprint triathlon race I was in 3 weeks ago, I got my award in the mail today. 2nd out of the 37 first-timers. I was definitely psyched.
That's it, I just thought of something. I'll wear my heart rate monitor to the GNR show! I guarantee it will be pretty damn high. Of course the ballads will bring down the average, but it will be interesting to me!
D, keep kickin' ass. Nashville marathon, '09!!! GNR represented! All we have to do is get GNR to license athletic wear dammit! That would be totally fucking cool.

My goal is to run the Atlanta Marathon when I am 30.
I am 27 years 8 months right now, So I have a little over 2 years to get conditioned enough to do so.
Well, you've definitely cleared 30 by now... did you ever end up running a marathon over the past few years?
I've got a mild running addiction that I've developed thanks to Nike+... I've been using their GPS sportswatch and logging my stats on their website. It's amazing how motivated I can get just to earn stupid trophies on their website, but the payoff in terms of my health and fitness has been amazing.
Signed up for my first half marathon, which I am going to run this coming January. I can log serious miles without issue now... I'll usually have one run each week that's about 12-15K (7-9 miles) and a bunch of shorter runs. I notice my pace getting stronger which is awesome, I can comfortably run 10k in 45 min - so my goal for the half would be to finish under 1.5 hours.
Anyone ever end up running a full marathon that could share a story or maybe some tips?

I ended up running Nashville Half Marathon in 2008 in 1 Hour 57 minutes and 11 secs at 205lbs....
Unfortunately injuries mixed with school have kicked my ass over the past few years and I gained some weight and got out of it for a bit... Im attempting a come back however cause I miss it so much.
Good luck with everything. Running is hard and sucks at first but once u GET IT, what an amazing high and spiritual experience.
tip on Half... U will be sooooooo fucking pumped with all those other people and so much adrenaline will be flowing.. u gotta keep your pace.. I've seen people let it get the best of them and they take off and blow themselves up halfway through...

D, glad you kicked ass in '08. That was a bad year for me...had effing patellar tendonitis for months, followed by a torn meniscus, got scoped...rehabbed into '09...finally up to full speed by the end of '09.
'10 was my first 140.6, and in '11 I finished my 2nd 70.3 which bested my '07 70.3. I've got 2 70.3's scheduled for '13. Knock on wood...STAY HEALTHY!
Easy E, I haven't attempted a stand-alone marathon yet, but I have done 2 formal halves, along with several training runs in excess of 13.1 miles. The big messages I have for ya are: ramp up slowly. listen to your body. eat right. decrease stress in your life (stress sets you up for injury), get 7-8 hours of sleep a night on average, don't cram training into a tight window...give yourself plenty of time (start training early!), and you won't like this one...don't set a time goal. A pace is one thing. No prob there. Just go out and run the race you can run that day! If it's your 1st, relax! Have fun! Next time you run 13.1, THEN you'll have a target to beat, how's that?

Yeah, I'm already concerned with doing too much, too soon at the start of the race. I'm going to try and hold a steady pace that I use on my long runs (luckily my GPS will tell me how fast I'm going so I don't get overwhelmed at first if people are passing me). I'm hoping to go all out for the last few miles. I need to be careful adjusting to the warm weather too... I'm running in 0 degree weather now, but the race is going to be 23 degrees sunshine (hopefully). Need to be careful of dehydration...
I've heard the advice of just finishing your first race with no goal, and I'm fine with that. I'm still going to push myself, but I've pulled back on my training a couple of times when I felt like I might injure myself. I won't be upset if I miss my target... no matter what I get a PR if I finish! haha

Finished the Miami half marathon last week in 1:44:21.. was slowed a little by the heat, but I'm very happy with that time. According to the stats I'm top 11% for my age, 9% for gender and 6% overall.
Overall pain was minimal, can't wait to do another race! I'm tempted to sign up for a full, but I think I will run another half beforehand. I feel like I need another goal so I can keep this fitness up! Thanks for the tips D & Axl4Prez

CONGRATS! You broke 1:45...very nice sir!
I'm always happy to offer advice...now if I could only consistently follow my own advice!
Personally, I had my best volume month since August, 2011 in January, 2013. Now, the challenge will be to gradually bump it up!

Clocked a net time of 1:34:02 in a half marathon this past weekend!! ..... Huge improvement over my last one. Top 3% overall, what a race!
I think I'm ready to start researching a full marathon. I'm thinking about Big Sur - scenery looks awesome, but I'm not sure I can handle the hills.
