What song got you into gnr / your first impression?

What song got you into gnr? Was it WTTJ or SCOM or PC, or was it possibly a later song? YCBM perhaps and T2

Everyone has a story ?

I think it was 88 or 89, PC got me hooked, then I jumped over to LIES, with the intro "this is a song about your f'ing mother" on repeat.

Interesting note, in Norway.... LIES debuten on the chart before Appetite !!

i use to watch night tracks that came on in the late 80's on WTBS

i saw SCOM come on and i thought it was corny and goofy

i heard it again the next week thought it was the gayest shit i had ever heard

but i couldnt stop thinkin about it, i hated it so much i liked it, my brother and i would cringe when we saw the video cause we both hated it

couple days later we both came home from the record store and each had a 45 single of SCOM, we both smiled at each other and said "i cant believe u bought that, then PC came out i bought that 45, wttj bought that 45, not for sure which order, i was to big of a bon jovi fan to give a fuck about GNR

years later my brothers friend told me the phenomenon that was GNR and how they had 2 cds comin out on the same day

i bought uyi 2 cause i had heard ycbm on terminator 2, i had heard of kohd and dont cry was on both so i figured id get it first since it was most familiar, ive been hooked since!

For me it was Sweet Child O' Mine. I caught the video on MTV on some flashback show to the 80's I think, around 95 or 96 and I immediately fell in love with both the band and that song. I was absolutely hooked on the song, and am now even more so. Pretty much ever since then Ive purchased all of GnR's recordings and have become fixated and perhaps at times obsessed with both the previous line-up and even more so by the new one. Each new bandmember is so intriguing to me I look forward to Chinese Democracy every passing day.

I got into GN'R around 92/early 93 and I was 7 or 8 years old......It was PAradise City that got me hooked.

Back in 1990-1993, my mom used to listen to Appetite for Destruction all the time and so I always knew what was on that album.

So, around December 2003, I bought AFD for myself and then I bought the remaining albums including Live Era and I've been hooked ever since.

So, for me, it was just an album, not a particular song.

Essentially SCOM but it was November Rain that put the icing on the cake.

Now I remember. It was that hit song "Silkworms". I remember listening to this unknown rock n' roll band play some festival in Brazil in 2001 and they played a song called "Silkworms". I was instantly hooked to this band and have been looking for a studio version ever since.

PS It was "Paradise City". Saw the video on Super Channel and MTV. Bought AFD.

Hearing Paradise City literally everyday on the old school bus. Singing "Take me down to the paradise city, where the weed is green and the girls are shitty"

About four years ago I was hoaking through my big sisters CD collection looking for something good and I found AFD. I thought "cool cover" and put it on. When it got to Paradise City I was like "That sounds familiar".

My sister told me that she used to listen to that song over and over when I was a baby and that it made me smile.

November Rain, about 1998'ish.   I liked it so checked out a few more songs, came across Sweet Child O' Mine and was blown away right off the mark...instant hit with me.   Then Welcome To The Jungle and You Could Be Mine, that was it for me I knew I would eventually have the albums which I do.

Guns N' Roses to me were one of the best rock bands ever, Appetite For Destruction is an essential album for any rock fan out there.   I've never taken to the new line up, I ain't against them either but they ain't done shit, there is no album out.   Then I hate seeing people diss Slash, Duff or any original ex-member which just works towards me having a dislike for the new line up, which I really don't but you know it gets to ya.

The voice, the riff, and the vid just completely overwhelmed me    I think I was about 9 or so?? Not sure    I managed to aquire AFD and just listened to that tape over and over and over.......

At some point or another, I was aware of GN'R but dismissed them as "just another band"... it wasn't until this year that I decided to download WTTJ, SCOM and PD... and I was blown away by the brilliance of these songs. Soon enough, AFD was on repeat in my CD player and I listen to it many times a day now. It's amazing!!

It has to be Sweet Child O' Mine for me I remember I just caught it on TV and I was hooked and Slash made me go   I was like play that again and it influenced me to play guitar and I still love that song to this day.

My first experience with Guns N' Roses was sometimes in '88 or '89. A friend of mine came rushing in with a videotape, and from all his excitement I figured it must be porn. Instead of nudity I saw a rock band I knew nothing of. The singer had huge sunglasses on and he sounded very scratchy, and I wasn't really impressed immediately. It was the MTV Ritz show.

The same friend also did an impressive Commodore 64 version of SCOM's intro with my computer. C64 only had these three sound channels, and he did the riff, the opening bass line and some rhythm chords with those three channels and looped it to play over and over again. I had never heard the actual song (except sort of unknowingly in that Ritz video), but that little computer ditty intrigued me. But in those days it wasn't exactly possible to go online and download the song you wanted to hear...

A few months later I noticed Paradise City on one of my sister's mix tapes she had taped from the radio. I started to listen to that one song, for the first time hearing the band's studio work. I remember thinking that the song must be an old song from the 70's or something, because wasps and twistedsisters and m?tleycr?es didn't sound like that at all.

Soon after that I had been poked with Guns N' Roses stuff so much that even though I knew absolutely nothing about the band, I just found myself making a trip to a record store
to buy an album by this band. I went to 'G' and saw Lies. I looked at the song list and a couple of the song titles seemed vaguely familiar (which probably wasn't true at the time) and even though there was no Paradise City, I bought it. The same friend again said that Lies is cool, but there is another album that is much better. And about a week later I got Appetite.

Long story short,  for me it was Paradise City in around '88 or '89, because "they don't make songs this good any more". But they did.

The only reason I'm so interested in Guns N' Roses is because of the promise of the new brand and the unique type of music they've been able to produce so far.

Listening to the old stuff has just been a way for me to pass the time (not that I don't love it as well) while I wait.

Then i heard SCOM on the end of the Big Daddy soundtrack and loved it

Then i heard PC on MTV2 and thought it was excellent and when i heard it was GNR i bought of all albums Live Era first so i worked my way backwards thru the albums
