and they're the huge modern rock station, not a classic or hard rock station.  If that single ever happens, they'll be the first to play it.

Seems like every time i turn on the radio they're playing a GnR song, usually off of APPETITE.

Give the dude a break! Why is it a stupid thread? Its being positive about the band and the fact that there seems to be a lot of exposure on the band everywhere at the moment!

Funny how there's been more guns on the radio lately, you'd think the radio stations have an inside on things. We as gun fans would notice a needle in a hay stack ok It's gonna be pretty hard for Axl to sneek CD out quietly.

and they're the huge modern rock station, not a classic or hard rock station.? If that single ever happens, they'll be the first to play it.

Seems like every time i turn on the radio they're playing a GnR song, usually off of APPETITE.

Interesting, GNR has never been a blip on the KROQ playlist.? Maybe another LA board member can confirm.

That said, KROQ did toy with the new Motley stuff for about a second, The Crue even got a surprise slot at the last KROQ Weenie Roast.? The sound bite of Dave Grohl jabbing KROQ about Motley's inclusion is quite funny....

There's a definate change going on in American radio, quite a few of the modern rock stations
are getting away from their standard playlists and going in a broader direction.? One of the original "Edge" stations in America, KDGE in Dallas will throw in the occassional WTTJ, PC, or SCOM (no UYI era).?They're not in regular rotation and have only been getting some run in the past few months but it is a good sign nonetheless.? I would expect other stations owned by the same broadcasting group to follow suit.

Not to turn this into a GNR/VR thing, but VR's massive success on modern rock radio has in all liklihood helped pave the way for GNR to get some much deserved airplay at a format that basically ignored them over the years.? Even though the ex-members now have an identity outside of their former band, they'll always have an association to their former band and the music they heklped create.? It's good to see a few program directors recognize that fact.

I've never heard Gnr on 99x in Atlanta and it is a HUGE modern rock/alternative station. They advertise as alternative but are clearly a modern rock station. They have broadened their playlists as well recently by doing these "what's in Jimmy's ipod" weekends. People love it. I do think that if Axl ever releases something, he will get a shot in that format-especially in LA and NY. I personally don't give a fuck what radio station they are played on but it is good for sales. (which in turn may help us get another record from the recluse).

There will definately be quite a few modern rock stations like 99X that will ignore GNR no matter what simply because of the GNR name having no heritage within the genre.

Just wondering Madagas, does 99X roll out any Metallica?

Yes. They use to play tons-not nearly as much now. As a matter of fact, I hardly ever hear them anymore. I think everyone kind of became over saturated with Metallica-just too much airplay on two different stations. Then, the bad record. 99x played alot of VR.

It's interesting how Metallica made the jump and GNR didn't.  I tend to believe if GNR would have remained active during the mid 90's they would have as well..

My roomate downstairs has been listening to alot of GNR lately and he didn't used to before. ?He downloads music and if the single comes out he'll be the first to download it. ?Seems like most of what he's listening to is Appetite. ?I think this is a sign that CD is coming. ?It has nothing to do with maybe the radio station having the same playlist dictated by Clear Channel. ?And it certainly doesn't have anything to do with me perhaps randomly turning on the radio statioin when GNR is playing a couple times in a row which leads me into thinking that they're playing more and more GNR lately. ?

Chinese Democracy starts now still going strong!

I think the GH just brought GN'R back into people's minds and playlists, that's all.

In Germany, they play UYI only on mainstream stations - IF they EVER play ANY Guns.

Where I live, there's a small indie station that plays PC like every fucken day, guess the DJ just loves that song. Well I can understand that.  Grin

WTTJ, PC, or SCOM (no UYI era).

On 94.1 JJO in Madison (which is a comparable new rock station) the gnr song they probably play the most is You Could Be Mine.  It is their most modern sounding song.

That's actually what's known as a "Real Rock" formatted station.

Some old some new, featuring everything from Ozzy to Franz Ferdinand and all points in between.  GNR get tons of airplay on thiese types of stations here in the US.

Radio in Atlanta sucks and I mean really sucks.....we don't have a "real rock" station. That's what I'm lookin' for! 99x is doing better but no one will go all the way.

WBCN in Boston plays GN'R and didn't use to a few years back.

Alt. rock stations will have to play the new GN'R. It is an off-shoot band of the Replacements?

Why would he want to?  An album thats been awaited as long as this ain't gonna be slipped out quietly  That would be the dumbest thing he could do - even dumber that making everyone wait this long.

modern rock and its format can suck my balls. thats why radio has sucked. Now they are getting smart and playing all kinds of rock...gnr included..,...my example is krock here in ny. went from playing modern rock to all kinds of rock.

as for vr paving the way...funny you bring that up because i was actually thinking about them and audioslave today while driving. vr have been successful but they are nowhere near where audislave. atleast here on krock. ill here slither evey now and then ill hear audioslave from both albums 100x a day.

what paves the way is the music not the name. if the music works it will get played. i dont care who its from. MC's new stuff gets played here on krock but not enough. Mianly because they arent about being a new band or anything liek that. they are content with their past and old material. but the old material gets played now too

we've been thru this 100x but liek i said if the singles gnr puts out meets the standards to whats out there. it will get played.

but another factor gnr and every other band in America will soon have to deal with will be the fact that many stations are changing their format from music to talk. i imagine that will play a role in a bands success. but the talk stuff will bomb and people will demand music again. so it shouldnt last too long...

Richard Nixon is in the Boston area???  That's a shocker.  hihi  I pictured Nixon in a more conservative area.  Smiley

Seriously, I think WBCN should be proud they are a part of New Guns history.  Every time we fire up the 2002 radio ad with Blues, Maddy, and CD snippets, it always says, "WBCN."  I think the dj's up in Boston would be happy to know Gunners around the world know of their radio spot.  Real trivia would be finding out who's doing the voice for that commercial spot.  ok
