You usually get the video and radio play weeks before the single is released.  There is enough time though.  But no chance on the album.  How often does a ban release an album without it already having atleast one single out? These days, never.

usually a single is the promotion for an album. you realease it to radio stations, do a video, put it on sale, start doing press, and that's all the promotion you need.
plus, CD has been on the press for such a long time that it really doens't need any big effort to promote. everybody in the press will jump on it and review it. everybody on the music business will get their hands on it and just give an opinion. it'll be all over the place once it gets out.

Not strictly true, there are bands who test the waters by bringing out a white label where the band are not credited, just to see the reaction and see if people take notice for it being good as opposed to being based on a name. This is possible, who says that aint happening as we speculate on the situation.

While everyone wrote them off (for this year, if not forever) and is expecting the album to hit (if ever) next March, could this be the shock-and-awe version of the release?

I really think that CD doesn't need anymore promotion. I mean just on this site alone there has been three if not more years of promotion. I think that a few TV and radio Spots is enough to get the not so big Gn'R fans out to the records stores.

On another note it would be cool if they released CD Nov 29, that would be three years since i saw them live In Toronto. Kick ass Show.

It says Chinese Democracy in November, but anyway, i find it strange that alot of internetsites has confirmed a single "CITR" in November...

First of all I don't think we need to keep kicking the dead horse in terms of how long it will take to promote the album.  Every single rumored release date thread has info or debates about that.

Second, from a record company's point of view, how many bands release a cd the Tuesday AFTER Thanksgiving?  I know the (fake) date is in the holiday season, but what would be the point of waiting over 10 years, only to miss the busiest shopping day of the year by a mere 4 days?
