Oh, and whoever said Green Day were better....I dont mean any offense, but fuck right off..

Since American Idiot dropped 2 years ago, us Canadians at least have had Green Day force-fed down our throats left, right and center..

That album is a disgrace to say Dookie, or Insomniac...do you own those albums?... Undecided

I'm no fan of Green Day - hell, i think everything they have done is awful - but there older stuff is clearly much much better....

Some of you are by far taking the band and album waaaaaaaaay to seriously..

Im Canadian, so maybe Ive gravely misread this band, but to me, there just a great, great party band with a shockingly impressive debut album.

Last weekend I had 10 of my closest friends over for a few beers, and through this record on being the only person in the room who even knew what the band's name was...

Needless to say, the album was a huge fucking hit...

I mean how could it not when you have a good 8 tall boys in you, and "Dancefloor" hits...its just pure anarchy!

Do yourselves a favor and buy the fucking album, and listen to it with an open mind..

Ignore the "stupid" lyrics....who really cares if that's their strongpoint...

Lord knows AC/DC were far from the most "lyrically brilliant" band of their time..

Oh, and whoever said Green Day were better....I dont mean any offense, but fuck right off..

party band? really? i find them boring....i prefer bands with energy

i dont like stupid lyrics...i like people who have talent...if the whole band can only come up with those lyrics then i have no ear for them

id need far more than 8 drinks to make this album sound good

ACDC were a great show band and they had a great singer...2 other things sadly lacking in this band...ane even their lyrics were better than these guys...well you never know they may get better...

i had dookie a while ago...i found it immature....sorry if that bothers you...ive never heard insomniac...American Idiot is far more mature imo...sorry theyve been shoved down your  throat, maybe you should watch something else other than the music channels if it bothers you

i dont have anything against this band, but i dont think they are all they are made out to be my the media...too much promotion, not enough free thinking

I dont watch many music channels since I dont really watch television anymore...

But I can tell you that doing a morning radio show, where I have no say in the music selection..it is all emailed to us from RCS in New York, I can tell you that 9 times/10 I will come in every fucking morning the rest of the week, just like I have done so far this week...and be forced to play a useless piece of cheese/pop punk from American Idiot...

That album is disgustingly overated, and the sooner this band's star falls the better...

To say Dookie is "immature" is highly laughable...

Id really hate to think of what you thought of the Cramps or the Sex Pistols... Undecided

i dont hear songs from that album very much...every song is annoying when overplayed...

songs about masturbation, a mental institution are immature...songs about the iraq war and a family member's death are not mature?...ohhhhh kayyyyy

cramps? i love most music and there is very little i wouldnt listen to if it came on the radio...i must admit ive not heard much of the cramps...but what ive heard is that its obviously a derivative of rockabilly and to me that makes it worth listening to, but a bit dated though

sex pistols, i guess youre a 70's guy eh...overrated band imo... but with a charismatic singer...thats something else the arctic monkeys lack, charisma

Their(Artic Monkeys) latest album got four stars in RollingStone. They must be good. I'd never heard of them, until recently.

Those bands were all immature. That's just a fact. They never took themselves too seriously at all. Dookie was and always will be a fun, immature, pop album.

Why are you reading that trash? RS is a pop magazine that pushes pop bands because they're pop, not because they're good. I wouldn't read it for free, much less pay for it.

The Arctic Monkeys debut album 'Whatever People Say I Am That's What I'm Not' has debuted on the Billboard album chart at Number 24.

The album has sold 34,000 copies on its first week of sales in the United States, the second fastest selling indie debut album ever in American chart history.

The band are currently on tour in Europe, but are due to play the first date of their 11-date sold out US tour on March 13 at the Great American Music Hall, San Francisco.

Terrorizer is the only decent music magazine I have ever read, and even it has its weak moments. I find the internet a much better source. Ask about br00tal death metal at www.metal-archives.com and you'll get literally dozens of recommendations. www.digitaldreamdoor.com is a good site for classical music and jazz. www.bnrmetal.com is a good source for NWOBHM bands. I have yet to find a really good rock site...

Just look around and you'll find out where the good music is.  Smiley

The LA Times waxed poetic about them:

March 15, 2006

San Francisco -- There's a saying in basketball, "You can't teach height" ? meaning that physical size can make a player desirable despite certain limitations in his or her game.

The rock 'n' roll corollary might be "you can't teach youth" ? meaning that that fleeting stage of life can lend enough energy, passion and questioning heart to a band's music to make up for the absence of a knockout punch on stage.

Case in point: the Arctic Monkeys, whose concert Monday at the Great American Music Hall here was less than you might have wanted it to be, but still rang with the urgency of a voice yearning to be heard and insisting that you pay attention. There's more at stake, you sense, than just selling some songs. This is how they transform the mundane into the magical and make life mean something.

Those qualities are the same ones that make the English band's debut album, "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not," such an unalloyed joy. You can talk about Alex Turner's compelling voice and the band's bright, engaging mix of punk, pop and ska, but what it comes down to is the eloquence with which the Monkeys capture the experience of youth lived out in a dead-end outpost such as their hometown of Sheffield.

That authenticity was a key element in making the quartet, whose ages are hovering around 20, a full-blown phenomenon in England. Starting in 2004, their concerts and the free records they gave to fans sparked an out-of-nowhere grass-roots following. When the album came out in January, it became the fastest-selling debut in U.K. history.

There's no such widespread Monkey-mania in the U.S., where the album has sold modestly since its release here last month, but there's plenty of curiosity among serious rock-watchers, and probably more than the usual anticipation for the latest hot arrival from England.

Monday's sold-out concert (which will be followed by another tonight at the Henry Fonda Theatre in Hollywood) opened their first U.S. tour since the album came out, and chief among the questions was: How would they give their music the something extra you expect from the live experience?

The very least that a fan could have hoped for was a potent delivery of the songs. And that's what the band offered in its hourlong set ? overcoming a few shaky moments when Andy Nicholson's bass malfunctioned ? to assert its claim as a precocious heir to the great tradition of British song stretching from the Clash, Sex Pistols and the Smiths back to David Bowie and, in the beginning, Ray Davies.

The album showcases Turner's gift for documenting the rituals of kids' lives ? centered on a night at the disco, with its attendant flirtations, fights and frustrations. He's a restless documentarian, cramming more words and details than seem possible into the verses, employing slang and local flavor but tapping a universal truth.

It came across with full force Monday, defiant and sentimental, with Turner's rusty-razor voice slicing strongly and dancing with agility through the band's sharp guitar-rock. Turner dropped in some lovely guitar solos here and there as they played most of the album, along with a couple of new songs that sounded just as good.

Turner, Nicholson, guitarist Jamie Cook and drummer Matt Helders loosened up as they went along, hitting the boiling point on "Fake Tales of San Francisco." That indictment of rock poseurs is one indication of the Monkeys' distaste for pretension, which also came through in their attitude-free manner.

Maybe it was too attitude-free. They didn't speak much, and Turner's expression remained impassive, if not sullen. It's almost as if they're a little spooked by the attention, and rather than risk doing it wrong, they're going to tread cautiously. The important thing was that their reserve seemed to reflect a respect for the music and for their audience's bond with it, and they're determined not to tart it up or toss it off.

You can't teach charisma, but ideally they'll become more comfortable as they grow into their skin, and figure out how to dramatize without compromise, to light a fire in their eyes and lean into the crowd that's reaching to them for connection.

But so far so good. You don't want to monkey with something this precious.
