Ok i've been away for a while. But hope everyone is ok. And i had to post this.
This is from Nme.com
Arctic Monkeys could sell over 350,000 albums in a week and have the "fastest selling debut album in recorded chart history", according to chart experts.
Yesterday alone (January 23) the band's debut album 'Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not' sold more than 100,000, 40,000 more than was originally predicted.
It is currently outselling the rest of the Top 20 album chart combined.
Chart experts at HMV say that if this continues, the album will sell more than 350,000 copies - beating the record for a debut album currently held by Hear'say's debut 'Popstars' in 2001.
Spokesperson Phil Penman said: "We knew day one sales were going to be big, but nobody could have expected them to be this huge. It's pretty phenomenal really - It's as if they'd won the 'X Factor', but achieving the same kind of sales without the benefit of a massive TV audience.
"They're well on their way to having the first million selling album of 2006. If it continues to sell at this rate, there's even a danger shops could sell out by the end of the week."
The band are currently second on the bill of the ShockWaves NME Awards Tour 2006.
I got their album and i think its great. Its a really refeshing sound.
Just thought i'd let everyone have their say.
Just out of interest if your looking for some songs to download i recommend these:
I bet you look good on the dancefloor (Anthem)
Mardy Bum (Great song about those girlfriends who piss you off far too often with mood swings)
A Certain Romance (Show ender)

I think they will be huge and will rise and rise.
I can certainly see similarities in how Oasis got started and how they are going about their business . . i.e. their refusal to do top of the pops. Just like Oasis did when they released definatly maybe.
Personally its the best album i've bought for a while. But i think they are prime to be hated for being too popular which is a shame.

Haha
I knew you'd hate them.
I think they are love or hate like a said earlier. I just think its new and different from everything else that this country has produced of late
Just seen that The album sold 100,000 in the first day which is the highest 1st day total for any british album. They have a shot at the biggest first week sales ever . . which would overtake Hear'say which i think we would all like very much.

They are horrendous - the same old bland British indy rock the last 5 years has rammed down our throats - remember when British rock was bands like Oasis, Blur, Radiohead and the Stone Roses?
Seems like an eternity ago....

Well after hearing nothing but good things about this band for the past few weeks, I came across this thread and gave it a click to see what all the fuss was about...
I ended up downloading the 3 songs you recommended Gnrfan, and I love them all. Especially Mardy Bum and Bet You Look Good...They remind me of a fun, lovin' 80's band while having a modern "White Stripes" approach.
The latter song totally reminds me of Ballroom Blitz by Sweet...I can totally see them being an influence of this band, as well as the rockier tracks sound alot like the Libertines..
I wonder if Aava has discovered this band, they would be right up her alley.
Any other good songs to check out since this album doesnt hit Canada till Valentine's Day..

Try When The Sun Goes Down. It's their current single in the UK.

Will do man, thanks for the suggestion
Do they only have one album at the moment? Do you own it, if so is it worth the $?

I downloaded the album a few days ago but I wasn't that impressed so far, but maybe that will change with some more listens. The type they are receiving is kind of insane, though. The NME already named it the 5th best British album of all time. It may very well turn out to be a classic but it's way premature to decide on that now.
