theres definitely some brilliant tunes on that album, unfortunately the hype is a lot bigger than the arctic monkeys.

I bet you look good on the dancefloor
when the sun goes down
riot van
bigger boys and stolen sweethearts (b-side)
fake tales of san francisco
mardy bum
a certain romance

all great - brilliant songs.

I figured you'd like this band.. Wink

I just got the album the other day, and it hasn't left my cd player since...

It's hands down the best rock album Ive bought in many, many months..

There still fairly unknown in Canada but hopefully that will change...

I played "I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor" on my morning show today, and got tons of calls asking who the band was, and what not..so there definately will be a buzz once the word gets out more.

This album sounds like a great garage band, yet all the songs sound so polished and professional. The guitars are absolutely thrashing throughout, and they have a powerhouse behind the drumkit forsure..

My favorites so far are:

I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor
Fake Talkes of San Francisco
Dancing Shoes
...You Were Staring Straight At Me
Mardy Bum
& Perhaps Vampires is a bit strong but..

They're good.. but, they're right, we shouldn't believe the hype.

I'm hating everyone going on about how great a lyricist the guy is.

"He's a scumbag, don't'cha know?"

Yeah, a real lyrical mastermind..

That tag is thrown about a bit much. The only reason he speaks to so many young people is because he is one himself. Alex Turner looks barely 16.  Cheesy

You've hardly picked out standout lyrics have you.

You could pick out Axl lyrics and judge from like 4 words that he isn't a great lyricist

I thought they'd been playing since they were young, as they were all friends, though he admits they couldnt play their instruments properly. It was a kinda garage job I think, they even grew up on some R&B, though I think their main influence was Oasis.

Only 2 years - boy does it show!

The Arctic Monkeys are so bad they make the Kaiser Chiefs look like Pink Floyd...

Just because something is overhyped it doesn't make it a bad thing.  People always forget this.  Give the album a listen and you'll see that they've got some really catchy, uplifting songs.  There's no reason to put down every new indie band that comes along.

I agree with the guy in the top hat. I don't think they're incredible, but they're certainly not bad. What has happened, is that a lot of people have 'kind of liked...' this band. That creates the hysteria, and makes people assume that they must be incredible.

I just think that they cater to a wide range of people.

And there ain't nothing wrong with that...

i must admit i had never heard anything by this band and wondered what the hype was about...ive now listened to 3 of the tracks and lets face it, they are crap, 2 years guitar experience and it definitely shows...how many more bands will there be, bringing out the same droning depressing music that has been going around for so long...to me this band is just another in the long line of those that cannot come up with an original idea and end up copying their peers, another 3rd generation beatles clone...i dont know what is more sad...the bands or the people who buy this music thinking its new...

did i say beatles clone?...no that would be oasis...i said 3rd generation beatles clone...there is a difference, maybe you should try getting your head around it...im not saying they sound exactly like them...there are underlying similarities of much of these current crop of depressing english bands, they have the same origin

yes it is a bad thing...its monotonous

depressing because the songs drag and the lyrics are awful

"It's one that laughs and jokes around
Remember cuddles in the kitchen
Yeah, to get things off the ground
And it was up, up and away
Oh, but it's right hard to remember
That on a day like today when you're all argumentative
And you've got the face "

sticking a big word within all those small words doesnt make a great songwriter...it shows a lack of balance of writing skills..hell this post im making has more cohesion than that verse hihi

sorry thats my opinion...id love to see more talented bands that could play a stadium without falling flat...but it seems ever more rare because of the current attitudes of music labels...sorry but this band doesnt really have what it takes...

They are one of the main acts for T in the Park this year. Based on what they have accomplished so far. All i have to say is. 2nd album. People like The Killers, Kaiser Chiefs, Kasabian and now Arctic Monkeys better get their thinking caps on to remain as popular.
