I actually think Slash has it over Perry.
Relating him to Hendrix may be going a bit far, Id say Page
He's the only genuine guitar hero to emerge in the last 10-20 yrs really when you think about it - I mean what other guitarist has left such a mark on popular culture? Navarro is the only one I would say who is anywhere near as close (and he's still miles away) and alot of that is down more to his celebrity status now

Zakk Wylde and Slash are on almost equal ground in my book. Pride and Glory along with Black Label Society is awesome!!!

Slash blows away Joe Perry. Brad Whitford is better then Perry. Page is a bad ass, but actually Slash is a more technical player/as in more sloppy, but just as much soul. I would say he is our Page. Would Zakk be our Jeff Beck?

If Slash is our Page, and Zakk is our Beck, who is our Randy Rhoades?

Joe Perry fucking rips...... Go download the song called Shakin My Cage of his new solo album... Just block out his vocals and listen to that solo...Then tell me he doesn't rip....

Here is the video of the song that Tomass is speaking of. Good song, and the solo is good. But, I don't know, its not like SCOM solo or anything, or even Slithers. Its good, he's good, but Slash is better. Enjoy anyway.

My Slash/Perry comparisons were mostly based on style, ability nonwithstanding.
I see the Page comparison but think Slash is
much
more in line with Joe.
Morello is fantastic, one of only a few players from the alterna era I find remotely interesting.

..He's our generation's Jimi Hendrix.
No offense James, but I think our generations Joe Perry is a better analogy..
I would say our generations Jimmy Page, but that's just me

One thing which comes to my mind though, when you watch him with GNR, hes does some huge solos (god father type etc). But he? doesnt do that with VR, cant say its age cause if les paul can still play and hes 90 something, slash is 40.
Slash does still do solo spots at shows, he did a couple when I saw VR this year in Australia, they just aren't as drawn out like when he played with GN'R.
And without having a dig at Axl, I think Slash used to solo allot in GN'R because Axl was backstage changing into his next stage costume or dealing with his inner demons.
I think Scott doesn't like the long solos plus he ain't have the habit of changing clothes in every 5 minutes.

Since I prefer Perry over Hendrix and Page over Perry, I like the Page analogy, but Slash is Slash, c'mon, he's in the top league, no need to be compared to others or say that he's XY of our generation. He's Slash. Half man, half beast.

i just say different band different style.. I don't think lenght of solo always means it;'s better... No questions slash could extend the solo each time for each songs.. I personally like longer solos live because of the atmosphere.. Gives the lead singer a breather too..
Gnr was a big time rock guitar band, so that is another reason for the long solos.. To me any great gnr song had a killer solo.. It was their calling card as much as killer vocals..
i think vr has more focus as 5 then any one person..
I need to hear their second effort to see what's what..

Fuck the team effort. Just kidding. Look, having Slash with short solos is like having Dan Marino handing off the ball. IT DOESN'T FOCKING MAKE SENSE. He is such a special player it is a waste to have him not do his thing. It is imparative to have longer solos on the next album. That is what I think we all want.
