Who?

« on: October 13, 2005, 05:58:05 PM »

It's been all but confirmed that the new James Bond will be Daniel Craig http://uk.imdb.com/name/nm0185819/bio The Newspaper headlines for tomorrow are going with that anyway....

So what does everybody think? Anyone really know much about this actor? Have they seen any of his stuff?

I don't know why they got rid of Pierce Brosnan no Now i haven't been to keen on many of his Bond films (I only enjoyed Goldeneye/Die Another Day) but i blame that on the scripts...the fact that they stopped using the books i think he played the role well, the films just became like too many modern films, all special effects and bugger all real entertainment and story (ok stories in others were ropey sometimes but we weren't playguedwith set-piece after set-piece).

Now i hope Casino Royale which is pretty much a brand new film - NOT a remake (that shite spoof doesn't even deserve the slightest recognition) has the old school feel of Bond films of the past, has a decent bad guy and a woman who doesn't get as involved as Halle Berry did in the last although if i remember correctly she's gonna be in this isn't she?.....Ahhh Nuts rant

I have no idea who that guy is - the studio is fairly good at casting completely inapropriate people as Bond nervous

After the last few Bond films i don't think i care anymore about the series...its all been done, it just looks tired now

He is to Bond films what Gary Cherone was to Van Halen.  hihi

I just can't see him as 007.

I don't think anyone will surpass Connery. I think Ewan MacGregor may have been a better choice.

After seeing 4 Brothers at the cinema how about Mark Wahlberg? He would be alright i think

Jude Law would be great for the role, but I guess he's too big of a star right now.

My favorite Bond is "The World is not enough." I can only watch those flicks once in a great while . They seem to be one of the very few movie series that gets away with copying off of each other. They're all the same, bond falls in love with an evil woman and a good woman, then he battles the villian threatening to conquer the world, The only difference is with each sequel, it takes place in a different country.

I'm not too crazy about Craig. Wasn't he in the first Tomb Raider movie?

I didn't mind Pierce Brosman. I don't know if any of you remembered him from Tv series Remington Steele, he's had a decent career thanx to Bond anyway.

I'd gone with Ewan Macgregor. Hugh Jackman would've been cool (but he ain't british).

Ahhh Fuck them all! Bring back Roger Moore, put in him a wheelchair and have 007: OAP, imagine the gadgets you could put on it, a few rockets, jet pack so it could fly, wheels could flip over so it could go on water....oh...the possiblities...well it would be better than the crap they wheel out now Tongue

I agree Mr. Kennedy and Izzy. ?I drunkenly swore I'd never watch another Bond after Die another die. ?the very very first movie I ever saw was Diamonds are Forever and I totally grew up on a diet of Bond (I am Scottish and very pro-Sean!).

not really interested in what they try and do now - the golden years of Bond are over - it's too glossy and polished now and almost a pastiche on what it once was...

*rant*

and daniel craig arrived to the press announcement on a boat - gripping onto it like he was gonna sh*t his pants - really cool. (sarcasm). ?i dont reackon it bodes well.

Yeah Sean Connery was the man he may of been a womanising sod picking up the damzle in distress but that was him, they're changing it too much with this strong intelligent woman thing with Halle BerryConnery was Bond.  Many people say Roger Moore was too cheesy in the role, now i'll admit he wasn't as good and Moonraker was one of the worst films ever but i still liked him he was to the Bond role what Sammy Hagar was to Van Halen, a decent enough replacement.  Lazenby sucked! Although On Her Majesty's Secret Service the film he was in was damn good, he was the weak link, i would love to see that remade with a decent lead cos it was a really good film.  I remember reading when he got the role he was a model not an actor and they realised he wasn't great and needed a decent film so they gave him one of the stronger books, i guess that explains why the film is decent it's just him that sucks, what puzzles me is if they realised he wasn't all that great why the hell did they use him.  Timothy Dalton i felt was underated he brought a whole new side to Bond and the stories were real good and thought they made the kind of modern transition needed.  Pierce Brosnan was quite decent in the role but like you said it's too polished now...way too flashy it annoys me so much to see such a good thing go to waste and what's with all the shit themes now? That last one with Madonna puke that sucked so badly last decent one was License To Kill yes As for Daniel Craig, don't know him so i can't knock him, i'm more worried about the film than the guy playing Bond, it's the films which are going downhill.

Fun Bond Fact: Roger Moore's daughter has a cameo in Die Another Day

The original bond movies were far more realistic and while bond had only a few small gadgets in the originals, the recent movies seemed to have an arsenal of weapons...i thought that it was getting a bit much.  Yea obviously it has become more slick and the scripts have similar structures and thats where the problem lies, not willing to take a chance to be different like the original movies.  Too many explosions and crap like that and not enough story.  Its great they are taking the gadgets out of the new movie and relying more on the plot. Also the bad guys in the first movies are all memorable yet when i try to think of any of the recent bad guys i cant think of one of them even though ive seen the movies a number of times.  We need a bad guy thats larger than life imo

But saying that I like most of the movies and Sean Connery was the best bond.

Best 'recent' ones were Sean Bean as Alec Trevelyan in Goldeneye & Christopher Walken as Max Zorin in A View To A Kill. They were in 1995 & 1985 as well....not exactly recent...
