I was referring to his frustration from lack of money and recognition. He was truly a starving artist. Although painting was his livelihood, he wasn't profiting from it financially. To my knowledge, he only sold one painting while he was living.
I just can't see that accounting for it. There's something more...and I don't have a clue what it might be.
I don't have a clue either. I was just trying to guess.
Well yeah, me too.

Populist art is almost always mediocre. Esoteric art that only a few people appreciate is usually better. Populist art has to appeal to the lowest common denominator, so to speak. That's why its themes are simple, like democracy, peace, love, celebrities, etc.
What do you mean, populist?

myself, I have a fondness for weird japanese art:
I once saw a magnificent painting at the LACMA museum of an Asian landscape. The mountains and sky were huge, and the birds were drawn with great detail, but the people in the painting were just tiny dots. I wish I remember the artist's name!

I like it too. I'd never heard of Amy Brown until Jessica mentioned her.

Here's an incredible Frazetta piece of art celebrating the power and history of the Northern European aesthetic.
This one's a Nordic woman, one of the beautiful race. Her beauty warms even the coldest forest of Scandinavia.
Conan, He Man, and tons of other modern characters are based on Frezetta's archetypes. He is a great artist for upholding traditional aesthetics in a modern, cynical age and preserving the values of Indo-Europeans in a time of crisis.

Esoteric?
#1? a.? Intended for or understood by only a particular group: an esoteric cult. b.? Of or relating to that which is known by a restricted number of people.
#2 a. Confined to a small group: esoteric interests. b. Not publicly disclosed; confidential.

buddy, you knows I was only goadin' ya on, right?
The day you teaches me a word is the same day the poor ole devil'll freeze to death in his livin' room...
Anyway I'd say you should rewrite yer old microcosmic art thesis and have a little faith in humanity along the way.

There must be something else man, just look how the mainstream music is, and its nothing about art there... and everybody seems to love it.
