One of my favorites: Monet - Impression Sunrise

Cher: It's like a painting, see? From far away, it's OK, but up close, it's a big old mess.


i like deLacroix. the alley of ' big format french painter" in Le louvre is amazing ... i know it's "too much" , but the beauty and precision and power of photo reaslitic HUGE paintings kills me.

and the " Le Sacre de Napoleon "? - has the most impressive painted fabric ever. i can stare for hours at the fabric of the robe of napoleon ....

i love art. but not photorealistic art. everyone, mostly nonartists are totally flabbergasted in awe love of photorealistic stuff but i just think, what's the damn point? it's impressive, but so what? truthfully, anyone can learn to copy directly from a picture or life or whatever. it's not expression.. take a picture of it if it's that great.... i think art's about expression, not really documenting life straight as it is. not anymore anyway. maybe it used to be. i do like some modern art and expressionistic, like i think picasso and dali are fucking brilliant..
i'll prolly post some of my stuff later..
and possibly fueled by relentless art history studying for school, i really don't like renaissance, i'm more for modern art. but i can appreciate art in most of its forms. .......unless i think it's boring.

Monet's art is from pre-photography time. He wanted to capture the light from different times of the day.

A lot of people say impressionism lacks expression, because it's not defined. But I think Monet's work has feeling behind it. The spirit of the mood lies within the colors.

yeah i mean, you gotta appreciate what he did. i mean the renaissance was basically the birth of a new art era, you know, and i don't really consider monet or any other reniassance artists stuff photorealistic. i mean the paint strokes and the colors, and the overall vibe of them, you can tell they weren't meant to be like a painting equivalent of a photo. they had meaning behind them and represented something. and i'm a big fan of color usage.
but i think peole who spend earthlings amount of time trying to get their stuff to look exactly how it looks like in real life are insane. i know a lot of them because i go to an arts school. their stuff is amazing and all but it has no personality of feeling or anything, it's just straight from life. and i fucking hate paintings of blending  brush strokes are beautiful.

I agree that it's more interesting when artists' paint from their imaginations, rather than from what's directly in front of them.

Picasso was taught academic art, which is based on painting gods, goddesses, and religious figures/themes. Yet he was brave enough to stray from the norm and create something totally original, which was, Cubism art.

Van Gogh's brush strokes are, in my opinion, the most brilliant ever.

The guy who did the photography on the " big blue" film paints i am told, i fell in love with the paintings and was told they were by him, so they would be by Carlo varini. He paints nudes of Redheads. Magnificent ones.
