Well I havent listened to all there albums but I know X was pretty good and deserves at least a B and Yeah could go for a C..Hysteria and Pyromania are prolly both A's

Actually, DL was a metal band early on. On Through the Night and High N Dry were as heavy as AC/DC or the Crue, or most metal bands at the time.

X was DL's attempt to sound "adult contemporary." They tried to sellout to the Rob Thomas/Bryan Adams crowd and failed, commercially and artistically.

On Through the Night, although I like it, is a rip-off of Judas Priest. High N' Dry is about as metal as you get circa 1982. Pyromania, while a little more polished and top 40 is about as heavy as what RATT or Motley Crue were doing at the time.

Joe Elliot can say whatever he wants about Def Leppard never trying to be a metal band, but he is full of shit.

The term "metal" is pretty vague and covers a lot of terrain--everything from Poison to Cannibal Corpse has been refereed to as "metal." At the very least, Def Leppard were a hard-rock band, which they are certainly not now. They've gone from rock to "adult contemporary." They want to sell their current shitty music to an aging yuppie crowd that listens to Bon Jovi, Bryan Adams, Phil Collins etc. The irony of course is that the more popish and assessable DL tries to sound, the less albums they sell.

X is an abomination and a disgrace to the Def Leppard legacy and it bombed just like it deserved to.

Because like Nikki Sixx talking about Motley Crue, Joe Elliot is trying to rewrite his band's history and they are both full of shit. An objective ear that has followed the band for years can offer a more objective account than a member of that band.

Joe Elliot could say Hysteria is avant-garde ragtime that heavily influenced Scott Joplin. That doesn't mean that is correct.

i dont know why so many hate def leppard here, i love a lot of their music.  its just so different, its like metal and pop combined and just has a unique sound i have not heard before.  even some of their new stuff is good.  i cant wait to see them here in edmonton when they come, i missed them a few years ago but now i wont
