Ive bought the 2CD Best Of - Its sweet. Animal, Promises, Love Bites, Photogrpagh etc. they rule. I prefer the Pyromania/Hysteria stuff. Steve Clark is a legend (RIP) - the stuff theyve done without him (apart from Prmoises) pretty much sucks. I got the Historia/In The Round In Your Face DVD and they ruled during the Hysteria era. Steve live is amazing!

I like toe older stuff better too. After Steve Clarke died they got a little soft.
Check out the 1st album, On Thru The Night. It rocks harder and has more energy than anything else they have ever done. Definitely a different sound too.

The 2CD best of is class. I have never really heard much by the band a number of months back i started listening to them, then i kinda stopped getting this 'Best Of' has really got me back into them i love every track even the
'Let's Get Rocked'
track that i previously disliked, i do though also have
X
and i really think it's dodgy, very few decent tracks on it.

I like Def Leppard with clarck, but the album that really rocks for me is Retroactive and that album some songs are made with campbell listen to the solo from the inside is just from the inside
, very inspiring

Ah this thread returns!
Def Leppard are just so fantastic - sometimes i like them more than GNR
Once apon a time i thought Def Leppard post Steve Clark was dead on its feet - but now, Retro Active and Euphoria are just so damn good, Euphoria is living proof there was more to the band than Steve Clark and when they wish to they are as good, maybe better than ever - the guitar work on Euphoria is their absolute best.
X takes many listens to get used to - but there is some gold there, but its their weakest album no contest.
Next album is (sadly) a covers album.

I don't think they would have evolved much differently had Steve lived and remained in the band. They really had little choice but to soften and change their sound in order to remain current. What's sad is that even though they put out music that was current (especially in the cases of Slang and X), it still flopped because their damn record company wouldn't promote them.

Not sure why they don't just change label to someone with a little more faith in them....

I think they still owe their record company a few records under their contract, but still, they should find a way to sue and get out of it. They should do what MOtley Crue is doing. Getting out of Elektra was the best thing that happened to Motley.
Island/DefJam is just making a mockery out of Def Leppard. They made them make X too much of a pop record by adding songs like Long Long Way To Go (which Def Leppard didn't even write), but then went back on their word that they will promote it. That song ended up not even being released as a single in the US. So not only did they not have a hit single but they ended up alienating many of their current fans. At least if the record was heavier, it could have gone gold, like Euphoria did, just based on die hard fans buying it.

It is sad the band dies away because of the record label, releasing the same 'best of' twice surely rates as the strangest release in 21st century music history. Only a best of that was a blank cd could have been more dubious - we're they trying to make it blatant they were after the fans money?
Well i suppose when u have two diamond albums who cares about sales.

Well I rather want a new CD kinda experimental, instead a CD that was forced to get out by the record company
, I hope for the best of Leppard that get out of this without too much trouble.

DEF LEPPARD vocalist, JOE ELLIOTT appeared with KID ROCK at Chi in Los Angeles for an impromptu set last Sunday. The duet took place while they were celebrating Kid Rock's birthday at in West Hollywood, with celebrity guests such as Justin Timberlake. They performed a rendition of Pour Some Sugar On Me with Kid Rock rapping during the middle section of the song. Joe managed to play the drums for a 45 minute mayhem fest, which included AC/DC's Back in Black, and TED NUGENT's Cat Scratch Fever.
Fuck, can't believe a decent vocalist would lower himself to perform one of his bands greatest songs with
Kid Rock
and have the guy rap over it...ruining the damn thing.

I'm not sure which band I dislike more...... This one or BJ's.
but Def Leppard contributed more worldwide for music in a timeframe, stylewise, that was less copied... **cough** a little less.

Thanks for that
Def Leppard were the the band that did pop metal better than any other band - they could also put together riffs and solo's better than virtually any band before or after. If that's not ur thing - doesn't make them a 'bad' group. Hell i don't like Bland Sabbath, doesn't make them crap though.

Uh huh, and 35 million people also bought Appetite, and 44 million bought the black album
And well over 50 million bought Michael Jackson's 'Thriller'.? What's your point?
My point is selling 17 million copies is not that good compared to other success, and where are Def Leppard now? There albums struggle to go Gold (they might not even reach that level) and now they are touring with Bryan Adams, wow..... I never expected that to happen to such a "big" band
Selling 17 million copies is not that good!?? You gotta be SHITTIN' me!? Artists of today struggle to go platinum one time.? "Appetite For Destruction" and Metallica's "Black Album" were bonafide juggernauts.? Not too many albums in HISTORY can be compared to either one and using their stats to try to short-count an album that sold 17 million is ridiculous.
I'll give you that Def Leppard are not what they once were - but who is?? I mean shit - look at Metallica (do I really need to even go there?).? But you can't deny that they were huge in their day and for several years afterwards.? Not liking their music is fine but that doesn't solidify your insinuation that they didn't achieve great success.? They pioneered what would become "80's rock".? GN'R, Metallica, Motley Crue, and many others were all influenced by them.

So, look at how many albums those talentless bastards from American Idol sell. Does that mean that they are a great influential artist? Probably not. Does it mean that the majority of American gobble up all of this crap because the advertisements say it's cool? Yes, absolutely. Album sales numbers don't mean a thing unless your an exec from the company. What really matters is if the band or the music has staying power, which Def Leppard does not.
