When all I've got is precious time

From Sludge

My brother-in-law (Joey Sinopoli) has done work with Jack Ponti. He was the singer in Angry Tears, which is a CD that was released in Europe (on Escape Music - http://www.escape-music.com/frames1.htm) a few years back (and recorded then), but the songs were written in the early 80's. There are sound samples on the site, or so there were.

For those that need a review on ol' Ponti -- click here -- http://www.metalsludge.tv/main/index.php?module=subjects&func=viewpage&pageid=1026 .

Anyway, Jack's sister did/does legal work for Jimmy Iovine. He heads -- or headed -- Island Records, which had G n'R under contract (indirectly through buyouts of other labels). Jack told Joey that he had breakfast with his sis and Jimmy, and that Jimmy Iovine commented that the Chinese Democracy material was incredible. But (for whatever reason) there is some hang-up with Axl legally.

That makes me happy, i really respect Iovine and everything he has done, how long ago was this? Just to clear up, i dont think Island Records had/has GnR under contract, its more likely to mean that Iovine heard some of the content along with other powers that be that make up Interscope (he founded that label back in the late 80s) or Universal. Wanted to add that in as people seem to be getting confused about what label the band is on!

Cool info!

I just think someone at sludge friends talked to Jimmy and that is what he said. But isnt he the chairman of interscope or was he?

Jimmy Iovine never headed Island Records so I don't buy this at all.  He founded Interscope.  Island (later Island Def Jam) was, like Interscope, a Universal label but that is where the similarities end.  Chris Blackwell owned and ran Island until it was sold to Polygram which merged it into Def Jam in the late nineties.

I love these "my friend's brother in law's sister's teacher's daughter's former college roommate knows someone who knows someone that said CD is great".

hearing these kinds of things makes me wonder how many people have gotten to hear this album.  I am sure they have all signed their confidentiality agreements or whatever, but I am curious to know what the number is.

You of all people - Mr. skeptic - post a rumor from Sludge where one guy who claims he knows another guy was at a meeting with Iovine and claims that Iovine said something about CD.  That's got enough  rumor friend of a friend stuff to be sketchy on its own.  But then when the guy states that Iovine ran Island, when he never did, it completely shoots the credibility of the story to shit.  Face it Dave, had this same story appeared with Iovine allegedly saying that CD was trash, you'd be all over the poster for posting BS rumors and you would be ripping the credibility b/c of the false statement.  BUt since it's positive, all of a sudden it should be taken as fact? This rumor from sludge posted by a bunch of people none of us know is essentially no more credible than any of the other 'net rumors that have appeared here - with one difference. I've already shown that one facet of the guy's post was 100% WRONG.  Sorry to burst your bubble, Dave.

So here's the story behind this music
The chorus: OH MY GOD etc. deals with the societal repression of deep and often agonizing emotions - some of which may be willingly accepted for one reason or another - the appropriate expression of which (one that promotes a healing, release and a positive resolve) is often discouraged and many times denied. Emotionally the song contemplates several abstract perspectives drawing from personal expression as well as from the film (End Of Days) and its metaphors. The appropriate expression and vehicle for such emotions and concepts is not something taken for granted.

Musically the song was primarily written by Paul Huge over two years ago, with Dizzy Reed writing the musical hook of the chorus. Former member Duff McKagan as well as former employee Matt Sorum failed to see its potential and showed no interest in exploring, let alone recording the piece. When the demos were played for the new band, Josh, Tommy and Robin were as they say 'all over it.'

Once the opportunity was presented, the song was given priority in our recording process. As the verse, performance and lyrics were decided on, for us (that especially includes Interscope chairman Jimmy Iovine) the choice became obvious. We were more than pleased Mr. Roswell (the film's music supervisor) agreed! Our thanks to Arnold and all for the consideration - it is an association in which we have always felt honored.

Paul Huge, Gary Sunshine and Dave Navarro appear on the song as well as Robin Finck. Robin's part was written by Paul and extensively manipulated by our producer, Sean Beaven. Robin was not involved in the writing of the final recording though did participate in the arrangement. All lyrics were written by myself. Additional programming (jack boots, screeching tires, etc.) was by Stuart White.

The fight of good vs. evil, positive vs. negative, man against a seemingly undefeatable, undeterrable, unrevealed destiny, along with the personal and universal struggle to attain, maintain and responsibly manage freewill can be and often is frustrating to say the least. In America our country's constitutional right to freedom of expression gives us a better chance to fight for that expression than many in other countries enjoy. It can be a big gig, like kickin' the crap outta the devil!

Power to the people, peace out and blame Canada,

Axl

It's not impossible that Jimmy likes the material.

But I don't believe that because somebody's sister apparently had breakfast with him.....

No its probably bullshit because 95% of the stuff on the sludge is bullshit. How can you take this rumour seriously when the guy dont even know what he's talking about?  Roll Eyes
